best time for ferreting

Recommended Posts

all depends mate, are the rabbits far travelled and just stopping off at your place? are the rabbits above ground? how many droppings are there? big mounds or just a few? can get out on a still evening just as it's getting dark and then use a lamp to see what's about? do you ise a dog to mark the sets? sometimes the older looking sets with no droppings produce the goods. Either that or your ferrets aren't working properly.

Try going out on a still frosty morning and be as quiet as you can and see what happens.

Check it out with a lamp to get a true idea of the number of rabbits

Use a dog to mark the occupied burrows

Those burrows might be play holes just used in times of danger ,there might be burrows or cover nearby where there coming from

Dont know if there is a best time, I've gone to warrens that looked good and got nothing out, done warrens that looked crap and been amased at how many bolted, been out in the rain and wind and done well, depends how much time you have, its better to go early in the morning because it gives you more time to work your ferrets, but it never hurts to have a bit of sunshine while your out. :)

most holes wae droppings are decoys or play burys,

as i hardly ever get bunnys out a them unless the dog chases them in,

id seriously invest in a dog tae mark burys if you are serious bout ferreting.

rabbits have different routines, depending where they live,

i ferret some on paths an because they disturbed alot they have a different routine tae the ones

on the moors, who hardly ever see people,

if in doubt watch the bunnys,

wont be long tae you notice a routine

just my 2 penneth

I have a lab coming up to a year old would that be any good for marking and how do u train it to do that
