One for the petrol heads

Recommended Posts

In the middle of all the PC junk I'm sorting I found this pic. This is my old "Ex Works" Mk1 Ford Escort in action at Talbenny airfield, many moons ago. It started life as a Mexico and was loaned to a team who track raced it. I bought it as a rolling shell and we turned it into a tarmac rally car with an ex factory 2.0L Pinto engine, Quaiffe box and Atlas LSD axle and Bilstein suspension, a very quick competitive car in it's day.

Two of my others :-

this Avenger was probably the best car I had, 2nd overall on our fist event and twelve finishes from twelve starts shows how reliable they were

and the Sunbeam, collided with a milk stand on the West Cork Rally after setting 5th fastest time on the stage before the "off", this pic is on Eppynt where I just needed to finish :icon_eek: , the next time on Eppynt was the demise of the little black car and I had to retire from the sport due to a "credit crunch"

That brigs back memories as I had one of them in 1979 . I changed it for a Alfa Romeo junior and we put the V6 in it. You just gave my a push down memory lane.

Thanks

Michael

Great pictures Al!

I used to be mates with a lad that was mk1 & 2 escort daft, about 10 years ago. He had a mk2 RS2000, the one with the separate nose cone & quad headlights. It was a stunning car, until he wrote it off...

I used to be well in to my fast fords in my late teens! :D

Yes, the Escort Popular I think they were, not too popular with the thugs though  , our local piggies had an unmarked Mk11 RS2000 until they wrote that off trying to catch a similar car
