Dreamy posts about lurchers, breeding wild rabbits, now ya wanna go digging. Really how do you expect genuine digging lads to take you seriously. It's difficult enough to get permissions, hard to get a good terrier then whomp someone that no one knows wants to try their hand at digging, take me out and show me the ropes is the line. Facts are dogs are being stolen, peoples permission is being wrecked by arseholes, so yeah I can see why anyone digging that has dogs that you can really dig to will be suspicious of someone that nobody knows. I see where your'e comming from, but at the same time, it's guys with decent dogs and good permission that has it all to loose. Ok lad, so what I want to know is how I become a lad with "decent dogs and good permission" Do I do it all on my own? Unfortunately I wasnt brought up in a hunting family and none of my friends were ever in to it. In my area its all guns and springer spaniels which I have no interest In, Still I have been very interested in terriers and running dogs since I was a child I always had terriers and would spend my summers walking the fields with the dogs bushing and hoping the dogs would flush something. when I got older I would go out coursing and lamping with my uncles track greyhounds but still I had no real experience of been taken out with real hunters. In the last few years and I am now twenty three by the way I have gone ferreting with a mate of mine. The only lad I know in my area that is in to ferreting, but he is now in the army and has no ferrets. What I am saying to you is that I was never fortunate enough to know any terrier men or lurcher men of the present day, I have heard stories off old timers about the past when I was a child and I think it was these stories that made me interested. When I was a child I was always on my uncles farm and he had a worker on the farm with him, I used spend every day shadowing this man and he would tel me about his dogs from the past. And every day I would ask him to tell me a different story of his hunting days from the past. I was probably driving him mad with all the questions but he never complained and I was in my element. I guess what I am trying to say is that I developed a strong interest for dogs and hunting all on my own unlike most on this site that were introduced to it by family and friends and I dont think that should be held against me. So I will ask again How do I become a lad with decent dogs and good permission? and am I wrong to ask for a little help to get there? Just to make it clear lads If someone envites me out with them to try my dog all I would want of them is to meet me with a locator collar and to supervise me and advise me . I will drive and bring only my dog . If you are not happy when you meet me and we get chatting then by all means tell me to F**k*ff. But i dont think im asking too much, just a hand to get going. Mike NICE WRITE UP COUNTRY BOYO Thanks lad Im just trying to give ye my background and some idea of where im coming from. My sister robbed my digital camera and took it to colege in sunderland with her the b**ch but il try get a pic of my dog up soon. Think shes coming home in two weeks. Il try borrow someone elses camera in the mean time. And as for me not trying hard enough to find terrier men in my area I know for a fact that there are no terriermen in my town bar one family who are as i said in the past are constantly digging pigs in a local forrest along the path of a public walk for the whole parish to see and they are constantly in trouble with the law. They did approach me before asking could they use my dog for a dig but not a hope would I have any dealings with them. The only other man in my area that was in to digging is an old man that is now in hospital with cancer. The only reason I know him is that he bought two terriers off me in the past and his nephew bought another one. Before you ask why I never went out with him. I was too young I sold him the dogs when I was eleven and only spoke to him again in recent years. Unfortunately he was a very solitary type guy and kept to himself. Thanks for the replys lads. Its just the ditches where the earths are are about twentyfoot high behind a dike used for draining land and there is no way id get permission as id ruin the ditch. Also id be afraid to give it a go on my own without a locator. And id be afraid if i dug to the dog id injure him. Id prefer supervision. anyway E.mac pm'd me with some great advice which ive taken on board. Im going to try and get my own permission and invite someone to my area. Hope I can get it before end of february. my only concern there is that id pick a shitty earth for digging . Id honestly prefer if an experienced terrier man had a good earth picked out for me to start off the dog. anyway I will also go to a few game fairs during the year and I might meet a few lads that way. Ya i wouldnt go buying a locator for 200 Euro if the dog is no good. If he is no good I would probably do for a new lurcher rather than buy a new terrier and new locator. Also I just wouldnt risk digging on top of the dog with no experience. I will see if my uncle has a few earths but i would think he would be against it just by his personality. For example he was doing awful giving out when I first got my staffy bitch, giving out about the breed saying they are dangerous b**t**ds. And he wonders why i gave him the nickname "Safety".
