I use wood planings/shavings, it's nice and easy to clean up every morning, I get it for free from the local furniture maker. I've used it for years and never had a problem with Ferret health, they push it around and eat their carcasses covered in it.

Mine haven't got exact bedding areas, they've got towels they bury themselves with, which they all seem to move where they fancy, but I would use it in their bedding, as I said, I get it for free so ain't going to cock around with anything else.
