i am currently looking at getting a gun for rabbit pigeon and other vermin control on a 500 acre farm, i have already had discusion about getting a rimfire .22 and although this seemed very good i was also wondering about the pros and cons of a shotgun:

- i don't know which callibre would be best or what gun

- how much would a first gun be and any recomoendations (im 16 funding is sometimes an issue)

- how much is ammunition and how would i get it ?

- any other useful info

thanks

You would be best off with a 12 bore you need a shotgun license to buy shotgun shells and an average half decent gun would be around 300-1000 It depends what your after.Old or new side by side or over and under you would be best of going to your local dealer to see what best suits you.

Two guns probably best BUT...a 12g Field gun shoud do the job fine.

You will have a wide choice of some reasonable guns for under £500...

Expect to pay 16p each upwards for 12g Felt Game cartridges (a lot more if you buy in small quantity)!!

the shot size is the 6 7.5 and the weight in grams 28 30 every one has an opinion you shoot clays with up to 28g and animals pigeon rabbit and son with 30 or 32 but there is no rule set in stone a lot of the time its personal choice and budget trial and error at first good luck
