Whippet F**king about retrieveing!

Got a 10 month old whippet, she retrieves a rabbit skin dummy to hand in house and occasionally outside but most of the time she f**ks about with it and runs off! i had when she was 8 month, she may have a few bad habits from previous owners! her recall is ok but she does tend to go deaf on me sometimes any ideas on how to get her retrieveing properly as im am going to start taking her out lamping soon. Practice practice practice .... reward her loads in the house with something REALLY good, like some cooked liver bits or whatever. Once she knows she'll get the goods on return, progress to the garden. Then to fenced in fields. You've only had her two months, if she's learned bad habits it'll take a bit of work to undo them but sure once you've won her round she'll excel.

 

You might have to hold off on the lamping until you've got her 100% tho. Can you maybe take her out to watch with some other dogs so she gets the idea first?

Forgot to add, if you're doing retrieving and recall training and she gets distracted or doesn't seem interested, stop the training and try again when she's more keen. Always end the sessions on a high note if you get what I mean.

Until it retreives ok, do your training in a passage way so it can't run off and has to come to you, plenty of praise, when its doing ok, then try in the garden and progress from there
