kriti 274
Hi to all, i'm retired to Crete, have to do some work (part time) to get by. I do miss my dogs, thats 1 of the reasons a joined this site. there's no bunnies here, only big ears, so i thought, get a lurcher and do a bit of work/play. great idea, crap reality. to get a £150 pup from manchester airport to crete will cost min. £1200. if i win the lottery i still would'nt pay that. if any one know's any expats on crete who have greyhounds, beddies, whippets etc., ya know what i mean. Please let me know or let them know so they can get in touch with me, if they want to. thanks to all. kriti Quote Link to post

kriti 274
what about this rescue in crete, they might have something http://www.cawg-greece.com/help.html the rescues in crete do a great job, i live in sissi which is just down the road from malia and the animal shelter there does a great job, but, if you take a dog (or bitch) from there, it has to be neutered or spayed. i can't afford + won't pay the cost to get the lurcher i want from gb to crete, so i'm thinking, breed my own lurcher. it's a bit of a dream but without dreams, we would be left with reality or nightmares. i just need to no of anyone who has greys, beddies etc here on crete and my then my dreams have a chance. thanks for your reply l+l, atb kriti Quote Link to post
Hollie 21
I know you have said how expensive it would be to fly one from England but would it be any cheaper to get one from spain? Look at these beauties http://www.ibizanhoundrescue.com/index.html If you go to the adoption option it tells you how much it is to fly the dog to the UK, they ask for a mininmum donation of 150euros, which is very cheap, give them a try, you might be able to get a wonderful dog at a fraction of the cost. Good Luck Quote Link to post

Good Luck will look into it,but probably same as rescue centres here, (spayed, neutered). thanks hollie Quote Link to post

kriti 274
Hi Ann, how ya doin? Hope all the pups went to good homes. I'm thinking of getting a Cretan Hound pup, they cost 300-400 euro a pup, then find someone here with a greyhound and breed my own lurchers. With a bit of luck and a lot of planning I could be up and running in 3-4 years. atb kriti Quote Link to post

Iv'e even designed my motorised rough terrain zimmaframe,so ill be be a motorised hunting arthritic old fart!Although a hawk would be cheaper. Keep in touch Tom. Quote Link to post

Surley it wouldnt cost no where near the price you have from manchester... Do'nt think it would be much cheaper. most of the cost is swallowed up in pet passport, anti rabies and flight. Flight alone is £600+ which is a rip off, but when you hold the aces, you win the game. Thank you for replying runforyourlife, it's nice to know that there's people out there who will try to help atb kriti Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
Nah flights arent that much mate, i have looked. I can get one from here 150... look about, all the best./ Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
This might be a silly question but have you tried looking locally? i have never been to crete but spent a long time in cyprus which, i believe, has a similar culture. There was no evidence of hunting but if you asked the right people there were hunting clubs. Once you get in with the local hunters you might find that they have a cretan lurcher equivilent that would suit the terrain and allow you to get started right away rather than wait for a breeding program to pay off? Good luck and good hunting, let us know what happens Quote Link to post
