mad al 146
With all the technology available for today's air gunners, is this viable? I suppose it would really be down to how good a shot you were and confidence in hitting the kill zone, along with the rifle/scope set up and how good you were at knowing your distances. I was just thinking this morning as I waited for the mutts to finish diggin some vermin out of one of our hedges and a few crows came up and over us, a 12g would have dropped a few, but what about an air rifle? Guest hyperion
NO! NO! NO! Quote Link to post
alan489 0
I suppose if you were good enough and confident enough to hit the kill zone it could be done. But would you be good enough to guarantee you hit the kill zone for a clean/humane kill? I personally wouldn't take the shot....stationary will do me, it can be hard enough at that sometimes Quote Link to post
mad al 146
I know exactly what ya mean about ordinary shots being hard enough, especially with my eyesight , but example would be just like this morning, the birds came up from lower ground, eyeballed us and stalled almost stationary ideal opportunity I'd say Quote Link to post
hw97 8
I know exactly what ya mean about ordinary shots being hard enough, especially with my eyesight , but example would be just like this morning, the birds came up from lower ground, eyeballed us and stalled almost stationary ideal opportunity I'd say i took a mallard in flight when i first started usein air rifles with a cometa 300s thinkin i was john wayne would never do it again like was young an daft at the time Quote Link to post
BEARINATOR 2,924
I've shot a magpie and jackdaw with the hw100 that were flying and it was more luck than anything else, i don't think i could or would again though Quote Link to post
mad al 146
funny how folk who've shot bird in flight all feel reluctant to do it again. I can't say I've regretted shooting any quarry in whatever the circumstances to this day Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
In wouldn't take shots at flying quarry purely for safety reasons. With an air rifle anyway. First of all I have an FAC rifle. Secondly is accuracy. Thirdly is some of the areas I shoot in. My personal opinion is that it's risky, at best. I was always told to know where my backstop is. You can't do that if you're shooting at the sky. Quote Link to post
Shooter08 0
ive took a shot at a woody when it was flying, well it was more like hovering anyway i blew it in its wing, and it dropped like a sack of sugar, got it, rung its neck lol, in the bag it went! Quote Link to post
hiho 5
iv taken crows you hit them under the wing and down they go the hardest part is finding them through your scope after that its pretty easy. but not recamended if you shoot ANYWERE near buildings Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
Or anywhere your pellets can leave your shooting permission... Quote Link to post

hiho 5
Or anywhere your pellets can leave your shooting permission... good job i have alot of land then Edited January 3, 2009 by hiho Quote Link to post
mad al 146
OK, I see the thing about not knowing where the round is going if you miss or surely in the case of more powerful rifles the round passes straight through the quarry. Now we all know that a shotty is a tool for the job, but what about the spread of the contents of the cartridge folks? Some good replies so far Quote Link to post
The Caretaker 0
This poll dosen't have the right questions and in fact does not represent the Forum in a good light! why don't we have a poll about shooting cats! or taking out moving car windows!!! Hunting is under enough pressure as it is without giving the Anti's ammunition like this! Our argument is that we go for clean kills, and then someone is asking whether we take pot shots at moving animals!!!! are you insane? i think this thread should be removed IMO Also I have absolutely loads of land to shoot on, but if my permission giver saw me doing this he'd have me by the scruff of the kneck and i'd never see it again! It's just plain WRONG! Quote Link to post
