Kane 2
We all know how much protein is in complete food because it tells us on the packet, but what is the actual protein percentage of a plucked and gutted chicken or a pound of beef. Is there a link to this information available. Quote Link to post

Eggy 0
Is there a need to get hungup on protein % ? In case of "complete, incomplete food": Really protein content (exept if all of it assured from animal sources) doesn't mean that much IMHO: Beans & lentils are on average 22-35% protein (grains much lower) but dogs can't process them as well as meat, and most dogs hate pulses  Proteins are made up of combinations of 20 amino acids, we need 9 of 'em, cats/ferrets need an extra one -10 in total (taurine) only found in meat (so a veggy cat or ferret is a dead 'un) and dogs need 9 as well. But the ratio of amino acids in meat (required for working dogs) is completely different to that found in plants (most grains, low in protein, lack essential amino acids for dogs as well) Pet food manufacturers state the total protein content (either animal or plant derived) not the amino acid Makeup! So a 20% protein content from chicken carcass can't be compared with a 20% protein in wholemeal Bakers chow (this name is from what they were doing originally BAKING bread from shitty grain/corn/beans-flour etc) (shit  ). Sorry for the rant but there's noway one can compare protein % between raw carcass and meal Cheers Eggy Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
spot on eggy ... you can get protein from ash tahts why complete meals are a f*****g rip off because you are not getting what you think .... dogs need creatine to grow and repair muscle this is only found in its true form in meats ... which can be completely absorbed by the body .....
