Brimmer 220
Not been feeling 100% myself, but still got dragged out. Boxing day. Had a day out giving the pensioner some exersize on the high ground. Using one of the young dogs (Robbie) this is the faster of the 2 dogs, and has a better strike, we hunted up the ground on the ghyll side with lots of rushes. Slow going to be honest, and really hard running, the ground is at 45% to start with, then the rocks and rushes give the rabbit an advantage, but dog did ok, nothing special. Took the jill that had shone a few days earlier, and tried the same tactics on the high ground netting up and so on. These rabbits say no. (They are hammered to be honest, and just getting there arse up tight has worked for them a few times before.) Jill stood no chance of shifting them, she stuck with them, but could not make it past them wedged in. Started putting in the older hobs then, no messing, the odd one was bolted, but had a few deepish digs 4FT plus, one I was upside down in the hole with loose soil dropping in my ear, whilst my arm was up the tube alongside the rabbit and ferret trying to remove it. A good day really, no mishaps, but low numbers, only 17. (Did not bother taking snaps, not really worth bothering.) Today. Went back on a field one of the farmers said we could try 6 weeks ago, only about 10 acres. 6 weeks ago we got 46 off it, but only covered 2/3rds of it at the time, so clean up time. Took the other young dog (Jed), this dog is now the better of the two, he never stops hunting up, is very determined, his strike is coming along fine, but his retrieve needs work, dropping a long way short. Took two of this years poley hobs along, no nonsense from these two. They are as good as the older hobs now, maybee even faster. (Cannot wait to get another season on them, and a little stronger.) Ended the day on 20 rabbits. (I spent 30 mins at the end making sure I got the total to 20, finding the last one was a ball-ache!) Another good day really, no drama, just rabbiting as usual. (Once again, not really inspired by the day, so left the piccies alone.) There are only a few more areas on our land that are holding decent numbers of rabbits now, the lowland which probs has around 2 days left on it. I'll be back on here soon. Or maybee 1 or 2 more days on the high ground, (I'll have to carry the old feller up there i think!) Sorry for no piccies fellers, maybee next time when we get something worth taking a few snaps off! Do you think we should be paid as 'Care in the community workers'? Does your old un remember your dogs name, and your name as well? Mine struggles to remember just the dogs names! No wonder the retrieve is awfull when he calls the dog another dogs name!" Edited December 28, 2008 by Brimmer Quote Link to post

I don't think it will be worth posting numbers wise, but I'll let you know what happens, had the rescue hob on a diet to speed him up, he's starting to look the part now, see what happens. They need to be trim, some folks think trim is starved, but no, any athelete is never on the fat side. Watch any ferret come alive when it's not a porker, don't allow it to gorge on a cage full of grub, just enough the day before, and they'll show what they are about! Be sure to let us know how he goes! Edited December 28, 2008 by Brimmer Quote Link to post

Mine as funny turns when its his turn on the spade Mine only uses the spade as a walking stick, when it comes to digging, he perches himself on top of the ferret box and starts barking commands! It would be ok if he could use a mk1 locater, but i think the dial confuses him! 1-8???? Too much! Dare not get a mk3 yet! Quote Link to post
