Guest JohnGalway
16 would be handier if you're shooting out of a vehicle, if you're walkabout I wouldn't say it matters much to be honest. Quote Link to post

The difference between the two in the accuracy department for hunting is not worth discussing! The shorter barrel will tend to cost more! Down to you to consider your use and preference! The vast majority of powders on the HMR will be burnt by 14 inches but that isn't the whole story, you probably won't have any problem with a 14inch HMR and may well love it, but I would not be happy below 16inches! My .22WMR is 14.5 inches, but that's the way it was, it's OK for sure, but I would still be happier if it was a little longer!! My HMR is 20"...little bullet, no weight...nice long barrel to stabilise it and point it in the right direction!!..Works for me!! Edited December 27, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
I'm going on opinion here, nothing more. I'd be happier with a longer HMR as well, as Deker says 16 inches. But hell, if you get to try out the rifle before you buy it and are happy with the results, then why not. Quote Link to post

It's only an opinion but for me short barrel = short range. Yes I know some will say rubbish but for the considered shot I think long is best. I want all the accelaration a barrel can give. Edited to add, have you noticed how target versions of most rifles have longer barrels than standard hunting models? Edited December 28, 2008 by cyclonebri1 Quote Link to post
