the cobra 269
hi all ive had dogs for about ten year now and saw a good few injurys but my bitch has broken her tail its about half way up and its a clean break ive had dogs take the tips off and that but the bottom half is just flapping i was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice . thanks craig hi craig had the same injury about 8 years ago the vet tryed to save it but had to get half the tail of after 4 or 5 weeks it did nt make any diffrence to the dog he was fine and worked for years but he did say alot depends on the dog some will cope better than others good luck buddy Quote Link to post
Sighthound 49
Yes I had the same, looked like a snapped pencil, vet couldn't save it. So because the tail was so thin he had to 'dock' it to about four inches. Luckily apart from the appearance it never affected her working. Good luck edited to add you must get the dog to a vet, remember the tail is a continuation of the spine you don't want infection to set in! Quote Link to post
flyinbonnie 0
had the same thing happen to a mates pup, which he made a splint from a bit of tubing to keep the tail pretty straight which had to be tight enough to stop the dog from biting it off done the trick but a young dog heels alot better than older dogs and a tail injury should be treated straight away but obviously a vet will tell you if its likely the dog will need an operation, hope all goes well for you both Quote Link to post
