Dogs are experts at reading human body language and emotions. If you have a sensitive pup then even if you don't realise it the pup may pick up on unintentional tension, stress, threatening thoughts, irritation at the pup's behaviour.

If the pup is submissive by nature then even the act of coming into the recall can make them grovel, (rolling over and looking away from you is a sign of submission: Uncle! Pax! I'm no threat, I'm such a worm etc etc LOL)

When you call the pup in try crouching low and speaking to it in a very encouraging quiet voice. If necessary get right down on the floor/ground so you do not present a threatening posture. Don't stare the pup in the eyes: another threatening thing to dogs unless you have a really good bond/relationship and 100% trust.

Speak in a silly high voice: easier for women I'll admit! A deep, gruff voice can sound like a growl to a dog, so make an effort to make your voice sound soft and gentle: and most of all don't be embarassed to behave like an idiot!

You are probably being too dominant for her, make your training more fun.

Dogs roll over on their backs as a sign of submission.

Try not to stare at her too much, some dogs find this too intrusive, depending of course how she has been bred.It can also be a way of evading training.
