Halfinch,

What you have just said is a very good point and observation - they have indeed read the forms if they are saying no, this is at least an indication in the right direction.

What i mean to say is that, ok, the landowner may have someone at the moment, but what if that person should want to give up the permission or indeed they could lose it?

That is when the landowner will remember reading 'something' and go back to it . . . . TA-DA!!

To Peter,

Bear the above in mind, and remember this: If there is nothing else, there is always hope.

Grim.

Peter,

I really feel for you, I had the same nightmare, I sent out letters, banged doors, etc. I produced my BASC membership and like you got nowhere.

Then I got a small paddock........Turned out to belong to one of the biggest landowners in the area....hey presto 10,000s of acres......snowballed to the point that I now have to turn down permission.

Keep it up, dont get totaly demoralised be polite, courteous when being knocked back as I am now shooting on land i was initially turned down on.

I am so looking forward to the post in the new year that says 'bloody hell its a yes!!!'

It will happen!

start by saying goodluck with your search mate, dont want to knock anybody or there methods but i find you have to actually turn up at there door show your face dress smart and be polite. Some of the farmers round here wont even let you look in the direction of there fields so round here a letter from somebody they never met just wouldnt cut it. Its not what you know its who you know, i just recently got some permission from a local farmer because my brother played football with his son 10yrs ago he remembered the family name and said yes. Rack your brains for any connection you can find friends friends etc.

Might sound like load of rubbish but hope it helps

What i find works for me with the forms is to present them to the person when you speak to them, it gives them something to read which gives them an outline of you that they can digest in their own liesure, kind of thing. That way, they have ( A ) met you in person, ( B ) got a good picture of you from the meeting, and ( C ) they can read a bit of background about you too. I have sent them out when i first started doing it, but have always gone for personally presenting them since i had no joy from the first wave of posting them.

This method works well for me.

You get the best of both worlds then - you get to meet them, and get to give them the forms in person as well (from which hopefully will come that all important 'first', or even 'new' permission  )

Grim.
