chimp 299
Remove the scab and keep it scab free. When you take the scab off it will bleed, you will need to apply pressure to the cut untill it stops bleeding and it will form a much smaller scab, no scab at all would be prefereable. Its hard to explain but its the size of the scab causing the problems, when the scab is torn away from the cut, because it is large it opens up the wound again. So keep removing the scab yourself and apply pressure till it heals...wont take very long this, i promise From a self confessed scab picker violet spray , go see a friendly sheep farmer
Tiff 36
we often have shredded and nicked up ears on the running dogs from coon, and have found like Hippychick if it is kept clean and free of buildup (scab, wound powder, etc) it heals much faster, I think it has something to do with it being "dried out" and like someone said, itchy. I use antibiotic ointment and reapply it several times a day, cleaning it well with salt water morning and night as well.

Miss Tarka 3
Your could try Silver Nitrate Sticks if you can get them from your vets(not sure if they would sell them to an owner)....its what we use at work if a quick s caught an i have used it on my lurchers ear when she caught it on barbed wire.....if you use them you need to get the end wet before you put it on the area and dont lick your fingers to do this because it stains...lol....and as previously said bandaging the ear to the dogs head may help to stop it from re-opening when the dog shakes.....or you could use Quick Stop Powder available from a grooming site.... Hope this helps Atb Miss T x
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
I 've used steri strips before now- the ones that docs use on cuts. Thing with ears is the bleed like crazy.
