Lewdan 17
Anyone have any idea how much it would cost, to have a standard .22 hornet chamber reamed out to .22K hornet. Thanks Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Not sure how much work that would involve Keith, but you would also need to have it re-Proofed. I've never seen any .22K Hornet Ammunition in shops, is it available? SS Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
You gotta reload it, it's a wildcat calibre. .17 Ackley Hornet if you're going there, I don't know too much about it, but I've never seen a bad word said about it. Quote Link to post

Lewdan 17
Thanks guys. .22k hornet rounds are not available to buy, they are formed when standard hornet rounds are fired in a modified K chamber, i actually have a K hornet but it was reworked prior to me purchasing it, just wondered if any one would know the cost of conversion at todays price because a mate is thinking about converting. ps After fireforming you can get about 10% extra powder in the cases, velosities up to 3150 ft/sec Thanks for the replies. Keith..... Each to their own "and why not", but this is a personal project and if you can find anywhere and anyone to do the work then you are presumably reloading as well, ATB, I'd be very interested to hear how you get on!! Strange though...in simple terms the Hornet sits somewhere between the .22WMR (300-350ft lb) and the .22 centrefire range (900+ft lb) Do you actually have a real need for this calibre and power or is this something you just want to do.....? I'm curious because whichever way you want to look at it the Hornet is on the demise, even though it certainly does seem to have a use/power/noise place!! I use the .22WMR which is also another calibre suffering (in this country) although in America it is very popular and I find it GREAT, this does seem to be slowly turning round in the UK as people realise the HMR is NOT a BETTER replacement, just different, but I really do struggle to see the Hornet making a comeback!! Thanks for the reply Deker i did some asking about before a got my K hornet regarding the good & bad points of this calibre, being honest i was originally thinking along the lines of a .222 because it would be purely for foxes, but i got talking to a mate at the rifle range who was using a hornet at the time, and he told me that this was his best fox gun for use on limited range shoots, as it happened he told me that quite a few of the guys at the range used .22 hornet for same reasons turned out another 5 actually used this calibre Had a good long think put together some details ie furthest safe shot=150 / 200yds. proximity of buildings = noise suppression. ease of shooting=very little recoil. anyway added everything up and decided to go for the hornet and to be honest never regretted it, this year to date we have had 22 foxes ( all with hornet ) furthest 160YDS nearest 30 yds :icon_redface:no complaints from farmers.. At the moment i have no interest in shooting anything bigger than fox, but who knows in the future maybe Cheers mate Quote Link to post
