reddog70 236
hello ive recently took on a nice young collie\grey thats 14mths old and he had a retained testicle, i researched a bit and found prob best to get it removed... was wondering if any of you folks have had dogs with this condition and how long after surgery you were running them again ... its over 2 wks now and vet says he should be ok within a few days (has had gentle exersize since the op) ..i understand its quite an invasive op and some muscle is cut into to remove it, this is what concerns me given the exertion he will give when working lamping any info experience appreciated cheers
Dawn B 212
I would say one week after stitches are out, the dog should be fine.
dennned 172
why did you have it removed , my dog had exactly the same condition , i had his pulled down and stitched tostop it going back , he has since sired a litter of pups , removal at a last resort i'd say , but as for exercise the dog will let you know when hes ready to run around
reddog70 236
why did you have it removed , my dog had exactly the same condition , i had his pulled down and stitched tostop it going back , he has since sired a litter of pups , removal at a last resort i'd say , but as for exercise the dog will let you know when hes ready to run around his testicle hadnt moved at all and was still where it was when he was born right up in the abdomen vet said it was unusual not to come down a bit i had it done as a last resort because of its position it apparently can cause discomfort and could lead to behaviour problems and being hereditary i wont be breeding from him the vet also said there s a high risk of cancer cheers

Retained testicles is a inherited genetic condition, how could you risk passing that on to future generations? Your Vet would be struck off for doing that operation!
