I may be out of order here

I guess I'm forgetting that not all members come from a history of hunting and shooting passed down within their families generation after generation. There has always been a weapon of some description, within easy access for us to get out and sort whatever was after our livestock. There was a "gunsmith" to sort us out then and there was no way he would be up for any "sales targets", if he thought anyone wasn't the right sort he just wouldn't entertain them. For me these days it's the dogs and air rifles, BUT the point I am trying to make is this, what I know was not found via the information super highway and there was no way I could just walk into a "Sports" shop and buy air rifles that are potentially lethal in the wrong hands.

These days the so called "dealers" are exactly that, just dealers, OK it's not drugs, but it is a commodity that will make them a couple of bucks and as soon as the customer is through the door they are history, "How long does the warranty run for?", probably about as long as it takes for them to hand over the dosh.

So OK, I've got the very latest state of the art air rifle, but just what the hell can I do with it? How many "set ups" have you seen for sale with the seller suffering a huge financial loss? The basics are not provided at "point of sale"/dealers so here I am nearly £1500's worth of kit what the feck do I do next?, I know I'll get on a hunting site and go from there.

This is fine if the new member can have a look and find what they need to know without making a complete prat of themselves and getting torn to shreds by the folk who can't be arsed with "newbies", feck I hate that term!!!!!!

All members need to be aware that any fecker can just waltz into a dealer and pick up an air rifle and land all the crap in creation in this sites lap, that's just the way it is, chances are, when they find out they can't walk around the town centre or the car park at Tesco's with their new kit they'll be long gone anyway.

Let's get real and even if it's only pointing them towards a link regarding "airgun law", why not do this rather than belittle them :drink:

I can wholeheartedly agree with what your saying the airgun world has moved on at a phenominal rate, but you cant buy fieldcraft or experience, and when you have them you dont need state of the art weapons

but I'm genuinely surprised that this section is still running. Firstly to Ian and all the crew who oversee the site, you can't be everywhere 24/7 and this is no way a dig at you guys, but I do feel that this section was more like "chat" than any other on here and I left here at the beginning of this year for this very reason. I found I could no longer take it seriously and even after returning have found it difficult to contribute. The amount of duplicate threads was unreal, i.e.

.177 or .22?

which is the best PCP?

which is the quietest PCP?

How do I make my rifle more powerful? (good question to be asking in the true light of day :icon_eek::wallbash: )

I've got the gun, now what can I kill?

Which is the best rifle for killing rabbits?

etc etc etc

most of the new members to this section of late just could not be bothered to look at what had been discussed at length in the passed and everything of relevance was "pinned/sticky" :wallbash:

It was usually on one of these threads that the bickering etc would start, so with that in mind, please, please, please guys do your homework by reading the wealth of knowledge/experience on offer here posted by folk who have been there and done it before even posting unnecessary drivvle that Ian and the mods end up having to sort out and it is up to us all to point this out to the members who are unaware instead of taking the piss or ignoring them :drink:

got to agree with most of what your saying al

BUT when you say its more like "chat" in here than anything else is that a bad thing??

i go down my local gun shop most saturdays for nothing more than a chat and a bit of banter, im serious about shooting but if i took it to seriously id get bored and take up under water knitting!

this section is my favorite simply because every one in here seems to have a common interest and are willing to help people out plus there is never as much back bitting and in fighting as in other sections of the site!

:whistling:

as for the rest al your spot on mate! lol!

cheers

Not too bothered about people asking the same stuff over and over again. Yes it can be annoying that they don't use the search engine but that's just how these things pan out. I've been a mod here since Ian opened the site and it bugged me to begin with but forums are the same the world over. You get used to it... the longer you hang around the less it will bother you. :D

Don't be too hard on them. It certainly generates traffic on the board although I must admit some of the stuff gets tedious after a while.

I only stared hunting a year ago, and found this site not long back, if it wernt for this forum i would of never kept coming back, ive now bought a better air rifle thanks to people on here, cheers buster. And now boughtmy first lurcher cheers MLB that a year ago would never have thought of buying. I think this is where 90% of people start there hunting and as it is the noobiest way into we will get loads of repeats. But thats just forum life eh lol

if you listen to the magazines, and go by the gun shops(not all but most) you'd part with 5 grand and sell the kit on for a pitence...give up and spend the same on the next hobey.

thats where most people fail to see things like lurchers and airguns are an on going 'life style' that takes just a bit of persaverence and a lot of time in on it.(you cant buy that time in but you can offer guidence when you've done the time).

i learned alone many years ago, and found a few practaces that ermm.. are really dubious to say the least, but, in the same breath payed out good at the end. In those years i've met a few along the way that talk apsolute shit, beleived what they were saying was the gospal, but most importantly went to great legnths to make sure you reach 'their great heights'.. which in basis was a god awful low....(to coin a fraize, the tossers make you worse!).

having more than one voise and apinion at least give's you 'options' in an area that you'd otherwise be clueless, so yup bigginers ask silly questions, but at least they asked, with multiple replies theres at least the 'thing you thought' or some pointers that up your personal skill levals... or at least give you good chin wag and keep you intrested.

how many times have you been stuck on something, you just dont know... one right word on a silly question and bing! yes you did know... or do now.
