paddy.t 5
Hoping to get set up with SGC and gun this year but only one thing confusing me: A freind had the FAO round the other day and asked him with me being 16 would a parent have to have a license for a gun to be kept in the house... He said there is no reason why I cant have a license and a gun in my name WITHOUT a parent having a license. But i always thought you had to be 21 to keep a gun in your name in your house So anyone here a FAO or know what i can/can't do? Cheers Paddy Quote Link to post
hiho 5
i fought you had to be 18 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Your question involves SGC and FAC potentially.....I would go along with the last post...check SS in the pinned section and then ask more if you need to.....!! Edited October 25, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I'm not sure how clear my Pinned topic is on it. But here goes. If you have a cabinet ready and installed when the FEO comes, Great, you can show him, he should be satisfied and that will be that. As you are under 18, you will need a Parent to be in the house the same time as the FEO, nothing to do with Firearms Licensing, just Police Policy. You can have and use a gun on your own after 15. The Gun can be on your license, and used by you on anywhere you have permission. If you are the only one using your cabinet, then only you can have access to it and the Keys. NO ONE Else. You can have it on your own at 16 with no problems, you are the sole person responsible for it, but there is nothing in law to say you have to have someone in the house over 21 to have an SGC in your OWN right. This should be what happens; FEO comes inspects cabinet, Gives it the OK, Asks you questions about your reasons and shooting experience, Goes away satisfied, Puts in his report to the dept, And you should have your SGC in your own right soon enough. Little Butch 16
Referring to Sporting Shooters post above; 'If you are the only one using your cabinet, then only you can have access to it and the Keys. NO ONE Else.' I've got a Shotty Certificate and thought that I had to be 18 to keep the Keys myself? Me and my Dad have SGC and he bought my gun and then gave It to me as a 'Gift'. It's still on his Certificate as we haven't swapped It over yet but when we do does that mean only I can LEGALLY hold the keys? Dad's not gunna get a gun so really has no reeason to go In the Cabinet. Butch Quote Link to post

When you are about to have the Gun put on your SGC, write a letter to the Dept saying that as well as it being on your SGC you also want it to remain on your Father's, in effect a shared gun. As you and and your father have SGC's then you can both share a cabinet, and both have access to the keys. But No One Else, i.e. your Brother/Sister/Mother etc. You can hold keys to a cabinet at any age if you have the relevant SGC and entries on it. Hope this helps SS Quote Link to post
paddy.t 5
Just thought ive had my name took for 'being out when i shouldnt be' and carrying a stick. now the coppers took our names and one freind got arrested but the other two officers that stayed with me and mate were ok and just asked the usual name address ect. will this just be for their record or will it be on police computer? if so would the FAO bring this up and it be a problem? + parents dont know so i dont want him bringing it up infront of them... paddy.t 5
What happened exactly? Were you cautioned, not arrested I see, detained? We had been out with snares just coming home and ide got a long stick like youd use for beating ect and the coppers drove past (the rd is main route to cop shop) and pulled up asking what we were doing out (fair enough doing their job) we explained that we had been to some permission controlling rabbits. then they decided they wanted to serch us one mate ot shifty and started argueing then he was arrested. they searched me and other mate (nothing illigal found) office carted off arrested freind. then the two police with us sat on car bonnet sparked a fag up asked for our names and adresses and wrote them down in pad offers us a fag and gave us the usual its not safe to be out at this time. then just said on your way lads and went. SportingShooter 0
Sounds like he took your names in case they would help with the guy they arrested or if it went further. I wouldn't worry about it mate. He may mention it, but its not sounding that serious. Far worse offenders have SGC's SS Quote Link to post
