In a pickle

Recommended Posts

Want to take my two out for the first time only problem is the burrows on the land I have permission are all in hedges and one in heavy brambles. Just wondered if any one fancied taking me along with them on some small easy ones to start them off and hopefully pick up some pointers?

Thanks

Most of my pernission is bramble hedge.

What I do is to clear the brambles with gardening gloves and a pair of secateers.

Come back a week later to set up your nets without tangles everywhere.By then the bunnies have got used to the new environment.

Good luck Mooster.

Just wait for the cover to die back a bit mate. it shouldnt be too long now. also If you cant see where the ferret is and it backs onto a road then youve got to be very careful. If you are gonna do this either get a mate and stand either side or try and get right on top of the hedge so you can see either side. its a bugger though because if your on your own and your on one side sorting a rabbit and there is another bolted on the other side. you may loose your rabbit. Also a dog is a good help on these roads as you can put him on the field side to hold a rabbit until you get there and you stand on the other. good luck mate

if your ferreting hedges that back onto a road, your far better of using a longnet on the roadside, you'll need to take someone along with you, so each side can be covered by one person, on the roadside its easier with the longnet, as the ferts can run freely between holes without dislodging purse nets, plus the longnet gives you that little edge, from the fert running onto the road
