mad al 146
Out running the crew earlier and got chatting with the farmer next door, must be in his seventies now and he came out with something I have heard a few of the older generation talk about. "The length of a Lurcher's tail" , or more to the point, the longer the tail, the better the dog , , now these are fellas, even one elderly spinster who upon seeing Lily, knew exactly what she was and told her "I've a job for you", something bothering her chickens , who have done a bit and really genuine folk. So anyone else familiar with this?, what are your opinions on it? Al Quote Link to post

mad al 146
cheers fellas, I've been hearing this sort of thing said from back when my dad was into ferrets and terriers, never really thought much more about it until I got Lily and it's good to hear this sort of talk, I could listen to these folk for ages Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
The lurcher writer Ted Walsh used to say that by hanging the pups by the tail over a stable door at a few days old, you could see the length of their backs and pick a good un that way! The mind boggles! Another daft old saying: White tip to the tail: never fail! Considering that an enormous number of lurchers have a few white hairs at the end of their tails...............well! Another one: someone told me that they had never seen a nervous bitch that couldn't catch a hare! (He was talking about coursing dogs here) Funnily enough I've had a couple of nervy bitches and they were both dynamite on the old long ears. Quote Link to post
