First Rifle Help

Recommended Posts

Right well I am new here. Not new to Rifle Shooting. However all the shooting I have done in the past has been with other peoples rifles so I have made do with what I have been given.

I am now in a position to purchase my own. I am looking to spend anything up to about £1000 for Rifle and scope. I would be using it for a bit of targets but mainly for hunting. I live in the UK. I have used both .22 and .177 rifles but cannot decide which is best for me so will take suggestions for either. I also don't want anything to weighty as it will have to carried alot. Info on scopes would be nice too if you have any. Would eventually be looking at a NV scope or addon so any ideas there would be welcome.

So yeh any suggestions are appreciated.

Cheers

about 300 quid however i would go for something else because this is the entry level gun if you go into pcps why not look at the big brother versions AA S400 and the AAs410 and 410 carbine,i have the carbine it gives you about 20 extra shots and the magazines are not as fiddly as the 200 that i have also had in the past what you need to look at is 22 for rabbits rats, squiggles, and 177 for birds but if your a very good shot and you do mainly head shots then there is not much difference, also the 410s are very accurate and not to heavy and has been used by my son when he was 12 including a lamping setup www.deben.com/lights_lamping/tracer_gunlights/mini.php.

Theoben what? Timelord

Cheers Marco, I would defo not be going for an entry level something a bit more fancy possibly. Would probably go .22 i think as more rabbits than birds and the last .22 i used bagged me a few pigeons so seems ok. Cheers on the weight thing too as I have been looking at the weights on the internet but numbers are no real help as I don't know how much the other I have used weighed so I have nothing to compare it to. My nearest Gun shop is a fair drive away too.

If you are looking to spend around £1000 on a package I personally suggest

Rapid 7 MkII

Weihrauch HW100

AA 410

in that order

Scope..whatever suits you...unless you want to get silly you can buy any of these guns and a reasonable scope for your £1000!

There are those that will say HW100 is the best you can buy at the moment, have to say I still think the Rapid just edges it!

Target wise .177 is the norm and is also useful for hunting, but if it's hunting first I would go .22!

There are those that swear by .20 saying it is the best of both worlds, nearly as fast as .177 and hits nearly as hard as .22...they have been brainwashed by the marketing men....simple fact is it the worst of both worlds..it is not as fast as .177 and does not hit as hard as a .22!!! Don't believe me..look at the sales of the .20!!! .25 is a brilliant, dedicated, ratting tool but useless for anything else!

Assuming 12ft lb for everything of course!!

IMHO :whistling::clapper::notworthy::thumbs:

The rifle will also need to be light as it will also be used by my son who is not particularly strong. Info on scopes would be nice too if you have any.
