bigdan 11
ive heard the best way to bring a digging dog on is to only let it see fox im assumeing so it dont go to earth on rabbit is this the best way so if you got a dog thats good on rabbit does that mean it want be good on fox do you have dogs that do both Quote Link to post

oyama 27
always had intelligent dogs. They will chase rabbits but once they goto ground they don't bother, they have the attitude that they'll find another.Charlies is different. When they were young we had the odd mishap but as they mature they lost this habit. whippeter94 0
My little border cross terrier will do both but i think she's better on the rabbits because she ferrets a lot more Quote Link to post
COMPO 54
if you only keep a terrier to dig foxes it wont do a lot of work Always hunted everything with mine, and so did my brother and he had proper underground terriers my little hound makes a different noise when behind a fox or deer to when behind a rabbit, my brothers terriers never bothered with rabbits below ground only foxes Quote Link to post
scent 509
i hunt both with my terriers they open up on both but once a bunnie is in the ground they leave it Quote Link to post
gogogadget 1
we've always had terriers that are good at hunting everything, cant see the point in just keeping a dog for one purpose when theyre probably capable of hunting the lot Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,102
We start our youngsters on rats ,purely to boost confidence for when they start work propperly. Some will say that a good dogs will start on fox but ive seen a enough knockbacks to re-inforce the reason for starting the pup on lesser stuff . I used to put a pup straight to charlie but after a few bad jackers ,which in hindsite was probably the dogs in question ,we now bring them up winning right up until their first dig .What happens then is up to the dog .You cant win them all and its silly to think you can .Its just a pisser to think about all the time spent on training and feeding plus you get attached to the little feckers .At the end of the day only a worker is worth the feed and kennel room . bigdan 11
brilliant i wouldnt have enough digging to justify getting a dog just for digging i wouldnt have enough work for it Quote Link to post
