Rabbithunter 456
I headed off last night with a member from this site, Ballybricken. The whole concept of the night was to put some food on the table, as my freezer is running low. Also, to show BallyBricken, my style of lamping. I picked BB up about 10ish and done the half hour drive to my 'permission' We arrived and entered the first "part" which consisted of four fields. As soon as i set foot in the first field, and felt how wet it was, i knew we werent in for the best night, but we persisted and eventually seen some "food" in the field. We stalked closer, and got prepared for "the slip" but he dissapeared. I annoyed myself by waiting as long as i did to slip 'em. Anyway, we crossed the field, and noticed a squatter in the grass. Dog was slipped and less than 3 bends later, the first kill of the night was made. We continued and had to cross a little ditch. I crossed over with the pup and ballybricken crossed with flint, now either flint pulled BB, or he slipped on the bank and he went flying into the ditch After that, we continued and lamped another field with proved unsuccesful. So we headed back to the motor, gutted the kill and moved on to the next spot After a short drive, and then a long trek down a lonning, i began lamping, and could hardly see the fields for water I seen a set of eyes and we slipped, but i seen it run and it looked like a fox or cat, so i called the dogs off and we continued our quest. After seeing nothing else, we headed back to the car for a bit of roadsiding. we got through a village and began lamping out the car, in the second field i lamped i spotted a set of eyes. I pulled up and got the dogs out, and we got in the field. After i little walk down i thought i'd release the dogs. However, i didnt realise how long the grass was and the dogs slowed their stride, while out quarry made its getaway. THe dogs weren't detterred by the fence and followed it over the moss. We waited about by the fence, and nothing could be heard. I thought i'd climb over the fence and go onto the moss to have a shine around. I put my foot down on what i thought was solid ground, but NO. I was thigh deep in dirty and freezing cold ditch water. Annoyed, and shocked after my cold encounter, i asked BB to hang around with the lamp while i go and hide the car and come back down. After a long jog up the field i got into the motor and got it shifted. Then, it was a long jog back down the field. I was glad to see BB standing there with the two dogs With going through that field, which was quite long, my pants had got soaked right up. We leaded the dogs up and headed back to the motor, both of us having the same idea "had enough for tonight" I then proceeded to strip down to my boxers and get the heaters on We had a laugh on the way back about what a copper would ask if we had been stopped All in all, it wasnt the best night, But BallyBricken seemed chuffed with his first encounter, in my fashion Cheers BB for coming out and carrying our kill RH Quote Link to post
