Broken Toe

Recommended Posts

Hi Evryone!!

I am very new to the Lurcher world and need a bit of advice,

I have a 3/4 Bedlintgon 1/4 Greyhound called Onyx, she is approx 6mnths her obediance training is coming on well, i keep her on the lead all the time except when i let her have a little blast about on a nice cut grass field (on her own).

2 days ago i let her out of the kennel who she shares with my 3year ESS, i always make them wait and sit until i open the door so they learn not to barge there way out, however when i say ok they have a mad dash about on the garden, while i was in the shed sorting Onyx's afternoon feed out i hear a little yelp!!

Onyx was walking but occasionally keeping weight off her left hind leg, i checked her out and nothing appeared to be broke etc.. i prosumed she had caught the top of her toe on some of the stone steps that run down the last few yards of the garden.

The next morning i was running late for work so i made her first meal of the day and quickly fed her and to be honest didn't really notice anything wrong with her, that afternoon i went to get them both out for a good walk and Onyx was limping and keeping weight off the same leg, this time i lay her down and had a good examine, it appears to be her outer hind leg toe, it's not just hanging as if broken but she whimpers if i move it.

I have not walked her to keep it from getting further aggrevated, back in the kennel for rest!!

This morning she is the same as yesterday but the toe a little swollen!!

Could the toe be broken or could it just be bruised bad??

All advice would be appreciated!! Remebering i am well aware there are such things as vets i know!!

if it is broke with her being so young it should heal really well, mine broke his when he was about 4 months and i thought he was done before he had even started, some lads off hear said it would be fine and now you cant tell which toe it is apart from the scarring from the pressure sores just make sure it gets set right, keep us all updated
