lgray88 4
my uncle door has jsut had abit of a clear up and he found what is a old box of bird shot for a .22lr so hes just given it too me but what im curious about is it ok too shoot such thing down a rifled barrel as generally shotguns are smooth bore guns , i dont want to feck up the rifling of the barrel just for the sake of seeing what the round does liam Quote Link to post
sidebyside 0
I use .22 shot cartridges trough my .22 rim fire to dispatch anything that needs sorting in a trap on a regular basis. No problems what so ever. Great for rats at close range as well! Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
They will be fine to fire in the .22, so long as the rounds are still in good condition. The effect of rifling on shot is curious as it tends to make an "O" pattern, i.e. a hole in the middle. Might be worth, just for the sake of curiosity, patterning them at 10 yards on a piece of cardboard Regards SS Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
yup your correct SS at 10 yards its easy too see the circle pattern forming , i havent added and pictures , but at 10 yards you can see the circle well formed within a 1.5 foot diamter and a hole in the middle where the plastic end cap is come out i havent seen this type of birdshot before as the type i have seen is usually just been the longer cases with the end crimped these are the size of a .22lr case but with a slight shoulder on them i presume this is where the shot is and the powder is below this. if shot at 5 yards , the diamter of the circle comes down too only 10 inch diamter , the O patten is not so noticable at this distance. liam Quote Link to post
Deker 3,491
Shouldn't be a problem down the barrel as it is far stronger than the lead shot but I know of people who have a seperate rimmy for the shotshells only...also.. don't use the stuff with a moderator fitted to the rifle!
