Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Went out with a mate off the forum and my son for a look on some ground that i usualy keep until after September due to the vast amount of maize grown here .We threaded our way through the neck high fields to a brow that over looks a deep valley .Had a shine as we walked up the hill and could see a fox in some cover crop but he wouldnt come out when called ,like so many lately it seems .We stalked as close as we dare,to where i could see clearly , and i shot it freehand at a mere 30 yards .Up the hill a bit more and a look over the valley and sure enough 3 more sets of eyes peered back but at a range beyond me.I squeaked and one broke away from the rest ,ran down the valley side and out of view for a while .I sqeaked a bit quieter and it came over the lip below us and stood to suss the situation. It never had time to think for long as i took him at about 50 yards .We went on up the hill ,catching glimpses of the foxes on the far side but they werent having none of it .In the past ive shot them here with the .222 but im not confident much beyond 200 with the .243 .As we came back down ,we saw another 3 sets of eyes but they disappeared at the squeak to re-appear further down ,foxy but shy buggers .I was content with the brace as i have the whole winter ahead of me to get a few more .
