my first decoying session with my new shotgun

Recommended Posts

i had a couple of hours to kill this afternoon so i thought i'd try a spot of decoying for pigeons. i set up in a field hoping to get the first set of pigeons for my new lincoln premier.

i am quite new to shotguns, i use rifles alot more and am a much better shot with one to so as you can imagine my confidence is pretty low at taking birds in flight as i just cant seem to hit them. before today i'd only taken one crow on the wing, plenty of rabbits whilest out lamping with a few mates yesturday night tho. i can hit a running rabbit but miss all the time with pigeons.

well anyway in the 2 hours i was there the going was pretty slow i managed to get 4 of them which i was pretty pleased with. it should have been more like 12 if i was a better shot but i'm sure that that will come with practice. i'm thing of getting some lessons at my local clay club to help me.

here is a little pic of my first pigeons

you did well mate for a first time out :clapper: decoyed pigeon will give you the most varied shooting you will get with birds coming from all angles and heights. just keep plugging away and things will get better, a few lessons will help you but mostly its about getting out there and doing it and building up a mental library of sight pictures in your mind then the ammount of lead required will become automatic. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE :yes:

cheers guys.

it was good fun for a sunday afternoon and will be out trying again as soon as i can. the idea of practice does sound to bad when u have a good time doing it.

still think i prefer shooting rabbits with the rimmy tho.
