Getting Permission

Recommended Posts

Over the last few days i have been to about 8 farms asking for permission to shoot and not one has said yes. Some of them have said no because they just dont want people to shoot which is fairenough but about half have said that they are not allowed to give permission for various reasons. Do you think this is just an excuse or are they really being stopped from giiving permission. Im pretty gutted so far because i have spent £700 on a gun and cant find anywhere where i am allowed to shoot it.

I can understand but dont condone why somepeople just shoot without permission.

Whoo! looks like i posted too soon lol. Ive just been out for a drive and accidentally found a farm house that i dint know existed and i had a chat with the farmer and he gave me permission to shoot on his fields and there is quite a lot of land. He said there are quite a lot of squirells to go at but itll be easier to get these when the leaves staft to fall, he said im ok to shoot crows maggies pigeons etc but DO NOT shoot hares lol, he must like em.

Anyway im in a better mood now that i have somewhere to shoot.

Off to go and get ma wellies on and have a mooch

hi hughesey

quote {but DO NOT shoot hares lol,} good to hear you have got your self permission .

with this statement above it seems to me that you are jesting about this statement and gonna ignore his request. you must be serious about this or it wont be long before your not shooting there after all its HIS LAND and ONLY your permission. don't mean to offend just making a point .

happy hunting

CONGRATULATIONS mate :victory: I once said in a thread of mine not long after i joined, that people should not give up trying, and also that a permission will come from where and when you least expect it.

Also (in case you haven't got it in writing yet) check my sig - there are some forms you can use if your stuck for words or ideas bud. ;)

Well done ol' chap!!

thanks grim. ive just got back from a good mooch round the place but concentrated only on abput half of it.

It seems llike there could be some good shooting to be had as there are plenty of magpies in the fields and lots of squirells aswell but come autumn the squirells will hae no leaves to hide behind lol. As the farmer said, i would be unlickely to see any rabbits as mixy has wiped them out. Also saw a big BOP but unsure what it was.

I need some tips now on how to lure magpies into the fields so i can pop a fwe off, they are just to on the ball even when sat in a field, they spotted me every time at about 100m away.

Davy i didnt meen that comment in jest at all, i was just surprised at how much he emphasised the fact he didnt want the hares shooting. Is there a benefit to having hares on the land??

Anyhow, thanks again grim

No worries about the help mate - i will always help out if i can. Nature of the beast and all . . . . ;)

One benefit of having hares on land is (generally speaking) that if there are hares about, you will not find many rabbits, like?

I have found rural magpies to be more wary than ones in urban areas. I usually put a shot rabbit or squirrel belly up on the ground 30 meters away from my hide. It is best to set up close to a tall tree that the birds sit in and look round for food. The hide needs to be decent with no gaps in the back, that will give away your movements to the magpies. Once you have shot one reload straight away and see if one of the others comes back to investigate the dead one. Leave a dead one out to attract other magpies and crows in to shooting range.

If theres plenty of hares there mate there will probably not be many rabbits about . Got some permission and on it is plenty of rabbits now a road runs through it and on the other side is another farm with no rabbits but hare only . Me brother used to be a keen air gunner and he swears by putting a carrier bag down in a field pegged down with a few odds and ends in it . He says the magpies and crows with them being curious buggers can`t help thereselves from having to have a look . Worked for him so might be worth a try. Funnily enough how many times do you see crows , jackdaws ,looking at rubbish lying around nevr know might work for you . ATB FV :victory:
