ilovetoshoot12345 0
I was talking to a man that has kept ferrets for 30 years or so and he said that its a myth that ferrets die if there left in heat, he told me that back in the day people never used to clean there ferrets out as much, and the vulva would get infected and would go left untreated. he did say that only one jill out of all the ferrets he has kept has died aplastic anemia. he said that they will come out of heat at the end of them summer. when my jill came in heat she got mated because want to chance it. just wondering if anyone can shed some light on it. stubby 175
totally true mate, if kept clean, no need to mate, although giving the jill jab, or running with a snipped hob will reduce the swelling, my daughters pet ferret was in season for months, and no ill health Quote Link to post
The one 8,577
Aye totally true but as ive posted before a couple of years ago i didn't have a snipped hob and a couple of my jills where in season all sumer . The unmated one's looked like they had gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson and i reckon repeatedly leaving them unmated would reduce there life span Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
And over thirty years I wonder what the average life span of his ferrets was! True a ferret in the wild does not get mated every year and wild ferrets have a shorter life expectancy. Healthy well cared for domestic stock lives to an average age of eight/nine. Some time back here or on another website I copied and pasted a scientific report confirming that ferrets can get aplastic anemia and can die as a result if not brought out of seson. The choice is yours, to some people a ferret is just a ferret...plenty more where that one came from! Quote Link to post
