Sit and Stay!!!!

Whilst down the beach today had a bit of a stalemate with Bruce...... .......he wanted to go back to the car, but i wanted him to come to me before we went back!!!! So i sat down with the 2 gundogs and waited for him to come over!!!!!!!!!!! For the first 10 mins he just stood there looking across the beach at us, then he thought he'd dig his heels in and he decided to sit too.........

 

 

 

After 30 mins it all got too much for him and he faced the walk of shame back to the car on the lead........little twat!!!!!

 

The gundogs do it fine and think its great sitting and staying for you......

 

 

 

 

Sometimes i wish Bruce was taught to do this when i tell him..........i reckon it'd have its advantages, sitting him at the end of a wood that i might wanna walk through on my own............

He only does it at the beach, out in the fields he's no bother, but then he's one of those dogs that retrieves live to hand, but wont entertain retrieving balls or sticks!!!! But at least he does it where he's meant too!!!!.....

Ive been trying to get my bitch to retrieve a number of things, but will she heck as like, but when out shes A ok. Just hope the pup ive got does the same, he retrieves for fun, but just have to see what hes like in the field, not long now. .

mine wont sit stay fetch balls are feck all,but they will retreave rabbits walk of slip day and night jump anything and 100%livestock steady so its a no from me

not done any sit/stay with any of me dog's. But i like to be able to put a food bowl down, and they wait until i say before they start. I think it plays with their mind, lets them no that you really are the boss.

 

Retrieving, not done any retrieve training with the pup, but last night he brought two rabbits back to me within ten yards.... and that close enough for me

your ignoring the opportunity to capitalise on a natural instinct in your dog...try crouching when they bring anything back and you may be surprised

here's a test for all those with retreiving dogs...try using an egg and see how soft mouthed your dog is....not hard boiled or anything like that just a p : lain ol egg in its shell....pics appreciated

I train the sit/down stay command to the big dog.........IMHO it is one of the handiest commands to teach, especially if you do a bit of ferreting.

 

Blind stay as well...........it has no end of uses in the field.
