kabar 14
Hello all. I have a shotgun cert but I am interested in buying a rifle. I have heard of Coterminous Certificate, am I right in believing that this puts both on to one licence. What do I need to prove to the firearms dept other then I did for my Shotgun, how much will it cost me and any advice on best rifle for Fox? Cheers. Quote Link to post

No. is does not put them on one ticket. it is basically a money saving offer, because they only visit once. You also have to do both at the same time. so if you allready have an SGC, you will not be able to get coterminius FAC, unless it is up for renewal soon. I think it costs £60 instead of £50 each. Thats my understanding. I have both, non coterminius. May be someone with one could confirm. Matt Quote Link to post

Matt It's just as you say Mattydski,it is to save money, but you still have two licences,it's just that they both expire on the same day.I can't honestly remember what the price difference is,even though I have only just had a renewal..............must be getting old, and, the memory is going .....................Martin. mattydski 560
Thanks Martin. And to complete the answer to you question. You have to prove you need one. Not like an SGC, where they have to prove youre unsuitable. An exceptable use would be Vermin control, or Deer stalking. You also have to have suitable land to carry out that that task. Or if it deer stalking, have booked stalking prior to you application. The security is stronger, you have to have two suitable references and a written permission from the landowner.. SportingShooter 0
It is £60 for Coterminous Certificates and even if you have a current SGC or FAC but want both to be 'Coterminous' then you can still do so. It basically means that the remaining time on the Certificate you have already will be cancelled and a new 5 year one issued. E.g. You have an SGC with 2 years left to run. You want to apply for your FAC. You can at this stage ask for Coterminous Certificates. You will need to fill out an SGC and FAC application form and post them off together asking for a Coterminous Cert. And if successful you will have a new 5 year SGC and a new grant FAC. But as mentioned it really is only a money saving device to cut down on FEO's time. As for the best rifle for fox, Well, the main calibre choices are .22 Hornet, .222, .223, .22-250 and .243. The .223 and .22-250 possibly being the most common pure fox calibres in use. As for makes of rifle, it is what you fancy as regards weight and other features such as a wooden or synthetic stock. Most fox rifles are bolt action. Makes include, Remington, CZ, Tikka, Sako, Winchester, Browning and many many more. Its what you have budgeted for and what you fancy. Regards SS Quote Link to post

Spot on From SS!! ... and you have to complete BOTH forms in full and Justify everything you ask for on the FAC in exactly the normal way! But that's the way mine are, and I get all the grief out of the way once every 5 years..and save a few quid to!!! Quote Link to post
kabar 14
Cheers every one and spot on. I rang my local FEO who confirmed that it doesn't make any difference until I renew my SGC and then it still remains two separate licences but with the same expiry dates.. £50 is the price for FAC. Cheers for the advice on choice, I have no idea when it comes to rifles as it is not something I considered until I kept seeing foxes out of the range of the shotgun. Quote Link to post
markbivvy 6
I have no idea when it comes to rifles if you feo is aware of this it could cause a few hiccups if you ask for a foxing rifle. some firearms departments are asking for proof of use before issuing them, and insisting on mentors. good luck with it.
