Guest Ditch_Shitter
I've been talking to a mate of mine over in england. Former Gamekeeper and likes to keep his hand in with a spot of shooting and such. Somehow, crossbows came into the conversation and, this morning, I found this waiting in my mailer. I've his permission to Post it and haven't edited a word, except to cripple the four letter words. I've not attempted to add punctuation as mine's probably not much better than his anyway. cross bow listen to this last year went down the big car boot here a bloke was selling this big f*ck of Barnet rhino crossbow he used to live in the states & brought it back with him so we had a deal for £125 with 5 bolts all the bits & the case. so when i got back home set the f*cker up you have to put your foot into it & pull like f*ck 150lb draw string on pulleys & wheels put a nice new bolt in and thought i fire it up the hill in my field to a big panthas grass that's growing up there to see if it works it went over the panthus clipped the top of the post & rail fence & just went strait up over the hill at the back. i was thinking f*ck me that's got some power iv lost that one so went in a told the missies had a cup of tea and some lunch when theirs a bang at the door i can see though the window its the farmer f*ck my hart dropped you just no when something bad has happened. he said do you no anyone that's got a crossbow you can imagine you better come in i said i only just got it. it was the first shot. well two girls had been bringing there horse in when the horse just dragged one of them across the field it had hit the poor horse in the ase & the bolt had gone in up to the flight they had already called the police & the vet it cost me big time. As I was discussing with another friend today; If he'd fired one inch to the side. Or a second sooner? He'd have killed one, if not both of those girls.

Never a more prominent reminder about the need for proper target identification and the need for a safe shot and backstop.... That could have been a hell of a lot worse. J Darcy 5,871
What many do not appreciate is the ricochette that can and does occur with arrows and bolts. Some think that its impossible, but i have seen it a great many times. They are lethal.
andy s410c 63
A mate bought one last year with 120lb draw to "shoot" targets on hay stacks/rolls he gave me a invite to do so which i politely declined. He only used it twice said it was a waste of time & money.I don,t know what the legistation is on crossbows but he walked into a shop, paid his money & walked through a city centre with a bow & 5 bolts in a black bin bag to his car
Rhodey 96
We used to have one for killing brown rats around the fishery good fun it was. We also used to tie a ribbon onto one and send across the fields with the dog in hot pursuit get him fit and he always brought them back.
