Dawn B 212
Ive had 2 Dobes and co own a third. WONDERFUL, BUT they are quite unreliable at times. Police wont use them because sometimes when they are TOLD to do something, they look at you and say f**k off! Temperaments on the whole now are crap. more like lap Dogs, my friend has European bred ones, much better tempered, correct tempered, but many "pet" people would let them get out of hand. LOTS of health issues which is why I wouldnt have another, most loal breed though. Dawn. Quote Link to post
johnk 0
thanks for the replies, i suppose the show people have ruined another breed, suppose dobermans from 30 or 40yrs ago would have been a different story but that is why so many people with working dogs cant stand the show people. No, you are wrong. If it wasnt for the breeders breeding then all the health problems these Dogs face would be worse than ever, fortunatley, diseases like Von Willebrands and Cervical Spondolopathy can be successfully treated, and if RESPONSIBLE breeders tested ALL breeding stock the vWD could be eradicated in a short time. Sadly, for many people, money comes before anything else and health goes out of the window. You will find people that exhibit dogs ceratinly the majority do all relevant testing before breeding. Its not really fair to critisize show people, most of our native breeds would now be virtually none existant witout them. At present I am boarding 4 Lurchers, one is crippled with HD (at 3yrs) one had an eye disease (not sure which I think they said something to do with the Collie breeding but cant be sure) and now as one removed and limited sight in the other (6yrs) one of the other two is very dog aggressive and the fourth is lovely! Not really a great advert for the crossbreed is it? Quote Link to post

They are the most loyal and defensive Dogs to their family, they'd give their life for you. Like anything else when you get a bad one, it usually is!! This is the one I co-own, he's almost 7 and tis was him Sunday racing at the Greyhound track. Dawn. Quote Link to post

BenBhoy 4,706
THE most loyal of dogs dawn...?? i think everyone on here who has a fave breed will pick their own, but for me if you get a good jack russell then he'll give his life for ya. Quote Link to post
sighthound1811 6
my father in law had a straight dobX grey an it was a f&*$ing nut case!!!!all it ever did was want to fight with other dogs, cats an any other stock it seen....it was kept as a pet though,an not for hunting..maybe if it had an outlet for that type of behaviour then it might have been better....but his guarding instinct was second to none,he would have laid down his life for his family....he once caught a guy who was trying to break into my in laws house an absolutely tore the guys thigh an forearm to shreds!!! after that he sadly became people aggressive an ended up biting someone an got a one way ticket to the vet.....
