Guest wex
JD's otter thread got me thinking about different mustelids. So has anyone had any close encounters with martins in the wild. I once viewed a pine martin scavenging in the bins at the back of our hotel whilst on holiday in austria. I have also seen what i think were martins flattened on the road. One was nr Brora in scotland and the other was nr the Galty mountains in co tipperary eire. I could have been wrong but the appeared to be martins. Cheers wex.

Simoman 110
We stay on an estate north of Inverness and the keeper told me the Pine martins (and Scottish wildcats) are common enough to be a pest when they put birds down.

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Sorry, Wex. I'd rather been ignoring this one as I'd assumed it would be about House Martens or even Swallows! Oops! So common over here now that, well, let's put it this way; I've only ever seen one mink around here. But I've seen Six Pine Martens! It's not like I could say, 'Pop over for a day and I'll show ye one.' But a week? I'd hope to be able to produce one inside a week. I'd even take a shot at inside a weekend. Trouble is, they're protected. I catch then, I have to let them go. And, to be quite honest with ye, they rather clog up my bloody traps! I went from killers to cages, to avoid harming them. Now I've given up even bothering with cages. That's to say, I no longer trap on a 'for fun' basis. Because it's no fun having to keep taking martens out of my cages. I only set now on a call out ~ and half my bloody call outs are to come and deal with pine martens ..... which are protected and I can't touch!
