Netter 0
On Ebay a rare Fenn Clapper Trap if anyones interested? Fenn Clapper Trap Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Is Johnny Re Re a mate of yours then, Netter? Maybe he should have took the three figure sum I offered him for that one, about three years ago, when he found it at a junk sale and bought it for a couple of quid. I even had to tell the idiot what it was Car Boot Chancer, that one. Pity for him is, the british Trap Collecting scene has now sunk so low they All want to 'Take it off ye hands' at what they euphemistically call 'The right price'. My lot's with a friend now, and ear marked for the Bog. Had enough of people trying to take me for a c***. Sooner make the rarest that much rarer. That " Auction " will mysteriously end, before the highest bid takes it. As per usual. Quote Link to post
The one 8,592
Sorry but how does it work ???? Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
just looks like a bit of old wire mesh. is it for small birds???????? and you offered 3 figures for it Tomo; Having collected traps all my life, I'd eventually settled down to a deep and abiding fascination with the stuff produced by A.A. Fenn. Now, I'm not going to drift off into a massive discourse on the subject. Suffice to say that he actually produced rather more than the 'Fenn Trap' as people generally know it today. Some of his most interesting stuff was short run, short lived. And, as ye observe, that one looks like a bit of wire mesh. It is. Step on it. Chuck something against it? Ye'd be binning it. Never that many made. Few enough survived to this day. Collectors covet rarity. Trouble, for matey there, is that the Trap Collecting world is shrinking and I honestly can't think of a single one of them today who would pay an honest price. They all want ye gear for peanuts these days. I was the man in the white suit. Never ripped anyone off. Someone on here, a year or two back, mentioned They had a Fenn Clapper. I was still active at the time but told them it was worth far more than I could afford and to put it away safely. (Hence my comment to 'Netter'. I thought it may have been him who had that one). So dick head there has missed the boat. As soon as I made my straight offer, he figured I was trying to take him and so went off looking for twice as much else where. Now he'll be lucky to get a fraction of it. They'll close ranks and wait him out. Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
Ditch........what price would that trap fetch on the open market today do you reckon? just interested in its true worth. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Really, genuinely hard to say, Rolfie. I mean; How much is a loaf of bread worth ~ untill the world's starving and you hold it? I have 1.50 Euro sat in front of me as I type. Right now, I'd hand that over for just five tea bags! Why? Because the tea bags are in town. I can't get there till I do, when my 1.50 will buy me Eighty tea bags. But I could Kill for a cup of tea before setting out! See? Once I'm in town, offer me five tea bags for 1.50 and I'd laugh in ye face. I offered him what I did because I had a deep, personal need for that particular trap. Hence it's value, to me, was relative. Yet a " Trap Collector " recently called the Fenn Mk I Vermin, " A piece of wire and angle iron. " See how he too would call that trap " A load of old twilweld. " ? I Collected History. I wanted to link it all together and demonstrate the Development and the mans way of thinking. That guy, with his vast array of various bits and bobs, also told me, he Collects " Traps that people Want. " There's few enough truly discerning Collectors out there now, mate. The 'Fine Art Conissoures'. Those that recognise Historical Importance don't want to pay. The new mantra is, " The Right Price." John there will be Damn lucky to ever again realise the once True Value of that particular configuration of old weldmesh. Incidentally, Rolfe; Having perhaps painted a somewhat damning - if simply truthful - picture of todays Trap Collecting world, I would like to point out that, with respect, I don't include people such as yeself in that bracket. I know ye like picking up the odd trap as ye come across them. But ye show no signs of the outright fever of addiction. Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
Cheers Ditch............i take your point mate...........yeah...........i don't do addiction nowadays........just fascination. Rolfe. Quote Link to post

Holdaway 2
I have a clap trap, not the fenn one, but one with round arms. It was for birds of prey. Not sure about the fenn one though. Do you fancy putting up a pic of your clap trap Dogs? Especially the trigger mechanism? I am after making one and can't figure out the release. Cheers H Quote Link to post
john b 38
can't figure out the release. I think it's just a split peg arrangement - bit like a Larsen. May be hinged at the ends Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Well after some very frantic (and amazingly clever) searching on the net I discovered a detailed piccy of the one I was looking for. It is an old Goshawk trap, still used abroad. Quite clever mechanics but not too difficult to reproduce I hope. H Quote Link to post
