I used to be under the impression that if you didnt feed them before working, then they would work better.

personally i think its BULLSHIT.

 

I feed the ferrets every day and they work well the next morning, after all its the ferrets instinct to hunt. I also find it easier to put the collars on them if they arent hungry as when they are they will tend to wriggle about a lot..... just what i have found out.....

do u no any ways to stop them wriggling around [bANNED TEXT] your puttin on the collors?

I got fecked hands, so I get the wife to help me collar them up before I leave in the morn's.

In all the years I've worked ferrets, I've never starved them prior to working. I make sure they always have food (dried) and fresh water available.

 

The only time I've ever had to dig is when they are caught in a stop and physically can't get out. The most important thing, I feel, is make sure that they are well socialised and are happy coming to your hand.

 

I'm working with one of last years kits at the moment who is a bugger at coming to hand, but that's because she is loving the work side of things, rather than being a pain!

 

The hungrier a ferret, the more likely it is to lay up and eat/sleep.
