Guest Leveller
If a fox is a pest then it needs removing that's fair comment but the very fact that these lads can shoot 40 tells me that they probably weren't a pest were they? for instance if they have a zero tolerence to fox on a particular shoot you're gonna struggle to shoot 40 as they would've been kept on top of week in week out. It seems that some firearms owners and some tyro lurchermen too go out at night with the lamp and see what they can kill. I'm not knocking anybody there are good and bad in both camps I'm a hunting man so the conservation of the fox is my priority but I would never knock a keeper for doing his job but it does get my back up when Fred Bloggs goes out with his rifle/Lurcher at night and just kills for the sake of killing. I've killed foxes with my Lurcher when I've been asked but if I'm out lamping for rabbits and a fox shows his face I don't lamp him for the sake of it he'll be left. I swear that some lads just leave home at night with gun or dog and have no purpose or reason to be out there in the countryside other than to slay anything at the end of the beam and that's very sad.......................... To me it's about control and management Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
I don't shoot foxes, as on my permission the rabbit is the one to be controlled and if I get a bit of help from Charlie then that's great. Sometimes I think when reading through the posts of how many foxes are being shot, that they were better off being hunted traditionally! This government and the right on tree hugging lefties have a lot to answer for, apart from illegal wars and crippling taxation. Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
i just cant see anyone getting 40 foxes in a night !!! no matter how much land you have. for a start you wouldnt cover it all. then there is the matter that the fox has his own patch so 40 foxes in one area is abit of bullshit the guys in the countrymans weekly have put. some of these mags dont do us any favours. and can make hunters of what every style you do look bad sometimes Quote Link to post
Lewdan 17
I think that the animal rights clan have (excuse the pun ) shot themselves in the foot by bringing about the hunting ban, farmer were happy to allow the hunt to cross his ground and take out the odd fox, say 4 to 6 times a season and they thought this was good enough to keep their stock safe. Now if a farmer has a fox problem is only realistic form of control is by shooting, and i think a few outing with lamp and correct rifle will account for a lot more dead foxes than the hunt, This is the case country wide , so i would think old charlie is having a bit of a bashing these days thanks to the antis Mr Logic are foxes technically classed as vermin i,m not sure Quote Link to post

Exceptions are made in firearms law, but in terms of animal classification AFAIK they are vermin. Quote Link to post
