Good night out

Recommended Posts

We were out tonight after foxy with rimfire and shotty at one of our shoots as they lost all there chickens a couple of months ago,

We have been there several times to set up a hide and every time foxy has been in the field when we have arrived so tonight we were an hour early so we set the hide round one of the silage bails so were set and waiting watching a couple of sparrow hawks working the field they were getting really close and we could see the feet primed and ready to pounce,

Then we saw two foxes at the top of the field mooching about in the grass we had been there just over an hour at this point legs starting to cramp up I looked behind and another fox had crept up behind us I turned to take aim and as I did he went the other way he may have seen me move so I turned and concentrated on the other two who were still there,

At this point my mate started a quiet squeak ten minutes or so passed and the two foxes at the top of the field took absolutely no notice of it so I looked behind again and the other fox had crept up on us again about 40yards or so I turned aimed took the shot with the rimmy one shot down she went well pleased with that,

We left it where it was as the other two were still there by this time it was just gone 10 and as they were taking no notice of the squeak we decided to call it a night so we broke cover and started to pull the hide down and we took a picture of the first fox and I noticed there was still one fox at the top of the hill so I said to my mate I was going to creep to a bail closer so that I did on my hands and knees very painful it was I reached my target bail and peered over the top and no fox bummer I thought so I waited about 5 mins looked again and there she was it was a fair distance about 75yards I was thinking so as she turned side on I took aim just above her head took the shot whapp she went down dead as a dodo,

I was well pleased with the shot so we went to retrieve the fox and we paced it out and to my surprise it was about 127yards my longest to date with the rimmy and I would not usually take them at that distance but she was side on so it would either be a head or chest shot or miss and as there was a good back stop I was not worried about missing but as it happened 3 inches above her and it was a clean head shot,

So all in all it was a good night out and I sure the owner will be well pleased too when I tell them tomorrow as it was too late tonight to tell them

Here are a couple of pics one of the first then the two together
