Guest Ditch_Shitter
Ye say 'Disturb the rabbits', Ricicle but, I've been out at night and have set one fence and wandered off looking for somewhere else to set and, sure enough, I disturbed the rabbits. Know what they do? They shit themselves and make a streaking bee line for home ..... I just sauntered back the way I'd just come and wandered along the fence listening for the squeaking of the chain link! Fox would have to be on his toes to have beaten me to it. Quote Link to post

Under the circumstances friedrice, I'd check them an hour after dark if you want the rabbits. Many will give different views though, and that's only what I'd do given the circumstances. Guest Ditch_Shitter
interesting ditch dident think of that. but why dident you get them first time around, in the wires before they got to they're feeding area. Because I started setting after they'd set out to their feeding grounds! It was a derelict gas works site. They were harbouring in the banks of some other industrial complex next door and were used to coming under the fence to feed on the grass areas between the big gas tanks. Well, the tanks had been removed, but they still came to feed on what was left of 'their' grass. I was working security there and got bored. So I found an old tv set. Made myself some snares in the builders canteen and wandered off to set them. The fence was just a fence. But the area covered by the old works was f*cking huge. So, like I say; I set the fence and then went idly wandering across this vast wasteland, looking for something else to do. It was about a half moon that night and still. I heard a sound and looked up in time to see a bun going hell for leather past me. Then another one. I stood and watched them as they went like wire seeking furry missiles - straight towards the fence! " This is f*cking handy! " I thought. And strolled back there myself. Found them by the sound of the fence squeaking as they bounced about. What a laugh that was, when I walked back into the office next day, to sighn out, and produced two bun's from under my jacket! Rolfe 2
It all depends on what catching the rabbits means to you........are you catching to sell, or for your own consumption, for ferret food etc. If you are snaring for pest control reasons then if Charlie avails himself of the odd bunny from the wires then in my books it's no big deal..........it still means i have one less rabbit to deal with.......and i am still doing what i am paid to do which is clear the rabbits. On some of my contracts i leave all the foxes alone as they are helping me with my rabbit clearance so to speak. If, on the other hand, I had a large rabbit order to fulfil then i would be looking to intercept old Charlie with the odd wire or two at every opportunity. In Professional rabbit snaring it is ok to check the wires up to and including dusk sort of time..........after that leave the wires to do there job until first light........the rabbits need to be left alone and not disturbed after dark for the wires to do their job. All you are doing by disturbing the rabbits after dark is make them more wary and reluctant to feed far from the buries........which doesn't bode well for a heavy catch. Rolfe. Quote Link to post
