Suitable for Fox

Recommended Posts

This is my first post although have been mooching around on here for some time .

Had charlie in my garden this evening hit one of my chickens not 20 metres from the house The dogs were laying in the conservatory and went ballistic thus scaring it off It managed to kill the bird but didn,t take it away .this is my plan I live very rural and have primed the nearest to us about impending noise but have tied dead chicken to a small tree so it will not be able to take it away ,This is where I hit it from my hiding place 25 metres away nowadays I am just a clay shooter but have half a box of eley 32 gram 5s going to let it have them from my trap gun 3/4 and full are 5s big enough and at what range or am I going to have to find a nearer hiding place

Personally,

I would go and buy a box of BB's and use them instead.

No 5 is not a fox cartridge, it will kill it but not each time, every time.

At 25 yards BB's will be devastating and through a tightly choked trap gun even more so.

A single box isn't going to cost the earth and you will have them there if and when.

Sounds like a good plan though and good luck!

Regards

BB's ,"Fox drops" we used to call em.Handed a few out at the begining of every rabbit /fox drive day so we knew everyone had the right ammo . JG is spot on with the range .Yes, BB's will carry energy a lot further but the pattern is'nt dense enough at longer ranges . Your fives would 've been capable of a clean kill at sub20 yard range but I doubt the fox could be guaranteed to obligingly stand stock-still and either stare at you or offer you a perfect chest shot.Good luck with defending your chickens.

Just to say thanks for the advice all, The thieving ginger fecker had really pissed me off. I had it all planned took the gun from the cabinet and a handfull of BB fox medicine . I walked up to the end of the garden and the wind was in my face so far so good , I lent against a big old oak finishing a smoke taking stock before concealing myself . It was a blackbird that gave the game away for charlie boy initially , and then I saw him coming down the hedgerow about 100yds , I backed away slowly and tucked myself away . The blackbird was still mobbing , Christ! that sounded really close I shouldered the gun .I heard a slight rustle as he came through the hedge Shit! he was so bloody close he didn,t come through where I predicted but fortunately was partially obscured by the big oak.I couldn,t see him fully and seemed to spend an age lifting his snout scenting . Then the greedy red fecker decided to check up on the chickens again BANG!!!! All done and dusted from just over 20 ft , I don,t do photo,s I think we all know what a shotgun can do from that range. Thanks again P..
