I'm allowed to get one!! Hopefully!!

If your mummy is a doggy sort of lady who's very qualified why the f**k does she consider bull breeds to be guard dogs?

She obviously only knows what the RSPCA or LACS have taught her!

Why not get a whippet x greyhound x collie x deerhound x labrador x spaniel and of course a dash of dalmation for spots. That should take care of all your needs and you won't need to ask so many questions, then you can concentrate on studying to be a gamekeeper as you seem to be falling behind, this is evident from the amount of basic questions you post.

Maybe you're are stupid maybe you are a troll, who knows.

Dickyboy.

What part of the country are you in? Open country, big fields or small are you going to be running much on short grass, do you intend to do a lot of ferretting? If you give us some information like this you will get better advice as to what kind of dog to get.

Trolls (antis) regularly use hunting/shooting forums. They usually start by making lots of posts asking stupid/basic/provocative questions. When they get a reply that suits their needs they then use that as part of their propoganda, regardless of whether or not it is taken in context or not.

Check out Dickboys posts, one minute he/she is a trainee gamekeeper the next my nan knows more about fieldsports. No consistency.

Maybe he/she is the worst trainee gamekeeper ever and thick as f**k, but on the other hand maybe he/she is an anti.

If you think I'm wrong prove it, P.M. him/her your address and invite him/her onto your permission or wherever you mooch.

Nonces pretend to be 13 year old girls on forums/chatrooms.

Forgive me if I'm a bit paranoid but I've had a few dealings with the anti c**ts.

I use deerhound/greyhound crosses (staghounds) they arent aggressive, theyre smart I do a lot of ferreting, bit of lamping, a lot of wandering around and they can catch foxes all day long and they also step up to heaps bigger game in australia no worries- never had to worry about adding bull to them as they've never had a problem with gameness or backing off cos they got hurt. I recon something along the lines you're talking such as deerhound x or one of the crosses you mentioned would be more than fine. Why all of a sudden these crosses are not up to the job after all these years has got me stuffed. Don't get me wrong I've also got bull x's but the stags are heaps better as all rounders, following me about the farm not harrassing everything in sight.

It's just fashion mate, bull X's are in fashion in the UK at the moment, there are a lot of lads out there who havent seen much else and certainly havent seen what deerhound crosses (which are fairly rare overhere now) can do. I have recently gone back to deerhound blooded dogs and for me they really do get the job done, while combining good working ability with fantastic temperament and looks!

[ :D Just gotta check with boss!!! Should be alright though!!

any help appreciated!! Cheers dicky

Are you a grown man or a kid? If you are a kid i would question getting a bull cross right off, there are easier dogs to handle out there. If you are a grown man, i would question my role as head of the house :D , Your wife should be taken into consideration, but you should be deciding whether to have a dog or not.

P.S. get an american staghound lol

Just to clear it up once and for all! My life story and About me!!!

I am 20years old and was just pissing about with the "mummy" comment as she does rule the household!!!

Where I am and in the line of work(gamekeeping in the south) lurchers are purely associated with gypsys and didn't know if boss had an anti lurcher view

I have owned and trained many dogs for a charity(puppy socialising) have also trained very difficult breeds and had experience with aggresive dogs but as i live at home i have to comply with "MUMMYS" rules

We have owned 2 lurcher(whippet/greyhound x collie/lab but never worked them!

Have only got into fieldsports in the last 2 years when i started work experience with a keeper.

He does not really participate in fieldsports just clayshootng and obviously game shooting.

I have no experience of fieldsports (in particular dog sports) apart from ferreting this season when i got some ferrets late in the season just to practice with

And for Mr yeehar there gamekeeping is not a fieldsport it produces for a fieldsport. After working 12-15hr dys all summer and shoot days and college in the season i have very little time to do fieldsports

But now i have time as i am being employed i do have time for a dog!!! If you don't like me f*/k off? a breed question ain't a propaganda collecting question is it?!?!?!?

If i asked who killed a fox with a dog this year that would be an anti question? THINK ABOUT IT

The deerhound cross posts are very helpful! I know i want greyhound in the make up and some more running dog not a half bred but i also want a dog with brains! which is what i've always read collies are good for! which is why i made the original post with so many choices!! not changing my mind i know the basis of the dog i want but am not sure what crosses make intelligent dogs ones that can think for themselves and have some self control. not just killing machines!

Nightwalker and to anyone else that can help i am in south east. small fields here for ferreting - go out most sundays, rats as part of work but not all the time, lamping as when there is a job to be done and will sometimes being going to hampshire etc with big fields for a laugh with mates who have a farm! some golf courses for rabbits and i'll be out and about.

Just so theres no contradiction from the likes of yeehar(cowboy) i do pest control and help run two small shoots!!!
