gnipper 6,866
I've had loads of magpies over the years in larsens but this year they don't seem to be catching, i've had my trap in two seperate places and caught one bird each place but then nothing? In the past they just seemed to steadily keep coming? Me and a mate have three traps on the go and his are the same, he caught one in one trap after he'd took the call bird out to move to another trap. Are the magpies clued up to the trap or just not feeling very territorial? Anyone else having bother with them? Cheers, gnipper Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Ive had plenty of bother trying to clean up odd single birds. Sometimes if I got one of the pair, and for some reason the other bird avoids capture for a while, they loose interest in the trap. I think as the pair bond is broken, they arnt so bothered about chasing off the call bird. Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
If after the first capture, the second bird comes calling, is it worth you while hiding out with the airgun/shotgun? If you only catch one surely the other of the pair at least hangs around? Of course you may not have the time to wait all day... Good Luck H Quote Link to post

Good Luck H Yes my trap went a bit stale also, what I did was, I moved the trap 200 meteres to the corner of the field and I also put chicken pellets on top and around the trap and in the trap and next morning had two, also I keep changing the call birds and this helps.
