the answer is yes i have a 22 inch collie x here that i rate in the field and most who have seen her would to,but on the track she is wicked, mark

Did you have to train the dog to chase the lure or does it come naturaly

Or does it depend on the individual dog? :victory:

a well educated dog on its chosen qaurry ie deer hares , realy shouldnt look at a rag and say im not chaseing that , i never jee a hunting dog up as i like them calm and sensible as they are mad enough without chaseing fur on a rope ,racing is the opposite from what i want a dog to do on a big nite chaseing roe hares etc they need to cut corners pace there selve for the nite a head as there shall be several chases so anything thta runs like a headless chicken burns out as i have had them they are great for the first few runs but by the end of the nite the fast clever dog is still standing there , got four dogs and they all run diffrent , i like a dog thta goes up the gears on qaurry and knows his limits something thta to much racing maybe spiol , but i maybe wrong , at the end of it racing is for greyhounds and there type , not clever bred saluk types or line bred collie crosses , but if i had alure well i would not be scared to let them have a go but i never let my dogs go to shows there job is in the feild always will be but everybody is diffrent , if i was into showing etc i would by some pure bred and make money with it etc same with racing

One thing what i find with shows is a older working lurcher at say 4 will never win a show because a good working dog will start to get knocked up feet. scares from fence and taking foxes before the ban and cuts from hitting cover and so on.

why doesnt the hunting life have a big working dog show where its for working dogs not polished up lurcher that have never seen a rabbit.

also its only a bit of fun at the end of the day.

For most of us on hear its all about the dog catching and working well. not how it looks and does at shows

to me my life stile doesnt suit wasting a day a ta dog show , summer fishing working gettin rabbs , winter allsorts of game so were would you fit a day in , a days wasted at a show unless you planned it and lets face it i live in the mddle of the country side rabbs etc so what would a show do for me unless i had something to sell. im a hunter fisher buy fare means or fowl means i work with people all week on big sites for my self hustling etc so the last thing i would do was meet more people unless invited guests to hunt fish , the midlands is full of shows etc everyweekend but real hunting guys and people who make abit money from hunting etc dont want to go round shows its a million miles from what they like ,now if i go i go to but something and thats about it no trapseing dogs round ferrets terreirs , i do my talking in the feild etc cheers

think markbrick is being slightly modest!!! from memory a while ago this fella was having the piss ripped out of him for racing his dog..so he offered to run his dogs against anything in the field......he indeed matched his dog and kicked ass with it!!!!!

yes ofcourse they can , i run my lurcher at any shows i attend , if theres any racing , but still work her during the season , she absolutly loves chasing the lure , aswell as the real thing , her litter brother would ( and has ) rather harrass other dogs during a race , so i am stopping him doing it now
