stevolad 26
Any ideas why my lasses 2 year old Lakie bitch is doing her business in her kennel and not in the 'alley' between the house and the garden when the pup will happliy go in this bit?? Is it territorial as the pup is in season and she has been spayed? The kennel is only small aswell, 20" x 22", she either goes in her kennel or holds it in which, i think has caused her to pass blood! Sometimes after being out in the designated section of the back garden all day she has come into the house and pissed the width of the kitchen which is no good for any of us.....it's not too bad when i'm home but when i'm offshore my lass can't get out with the dogs all the time and the dog wont go do her business. She had a similar problem when she was younger and in the pen, doing her business in her kennel so i made the sleeping area smaller and covered the run with a roof to get her to go out and do it which i think worked. We brought her in the house months ago and had the occasional accident but i can't be out with the dog all the time and she's a bit of a liability with a young son and another on the way, we need the house clean and piss free. So.....the dogs back outside in the little kennel with the pup but will not do her business outside, but will do it in her kennel?????? SHould we let someone who can walk her all the time have her or has anyone got any ideas?

skycat 6,174
Some of my bitches really hate peeing and crapping even down the bottom of my huge garden: they'll hold it and hold it until they are taken out for a walk. If you or whoever is looking after her can't get her out on a daily walk, which I would consider the minimum for any dog, then surely it might be fairer on the bitch to let her go somewhere where she will get the exercise and attention she needs. I had one little lurcher bitch who just held it until she had to go wherever she was: she'd only ever normally pee on grass, though not the back garden: felt it wasn't her place. She wasn't that bright! By the sounds of it she obviously has a problem in her head about where to do it, and whether that is because she's annoyed at having to share her life with a pup, or is upset when you go away or for another reason: I don't know. If she started off life being into a certain routine where she went out at a certain time every day to empty, then maybe if that routine has changed she is unable to cope for some reason. Not having a go at you, and I know you said you were away off shore sometimes, but if the dog is not right in herself and not happy, then maybe it would be best to rehome her with someone who has more time for her. Just my opinion.
stevolad 26
Thanks for taking the time to reply Skycat, much appreciated. When I'm home the bitch is out twice a day without fail for long walks and my missus does her best to get her out everyday when i'm away or let out the back if she is in the house but she just seams to go out the back door and into the kennel. I've brought the pup in and left the older dog out to see whether she will do anything in the kennel or on the paving area. If she goes in her kennel again then she will have to go, it's doing my head in and my lasses as it's her pet but she's too unpredictable at the moment. It had stopped for quite sometime and restarted for some reason over the last month or 2. She was adopted out for a few weeks, neutered and rehomed, she came back like a barrell on legs with 2 bags of treats from whereever she had been...i wonder whether something there has brought it on again?? skycat 6,174
Well with all that unsettling I'm not surprised the dog is screwed up: once again, not having a go at you: honestly, but its just that people don't realise how much it can mess with a dog's head moving it to a different home, AND being spayed: losing their hormones can mess their heads up too, big time, especially if she's now come back home only to find another female who is now in season in her place, so to speak. Think about it! I reckon I'd be pissing in the other woman's bed if that was the case LOL
stevolad 26
HAd her outside on her own last night and she pissed on the opposite end of the paving from her kennel, nothing in the kennel so she's back onside for now.
