custom or semi custom rifle

Recommended Posts

Right, I have been saving up for a new rifle and its starting to come together, (please offer any opinions on what the things i'm thinking of) walking and driving for foxes!!

.223 Semi custom rifle, is it worth it??

I don't like the majority of factory stocks, so when i buy myself a rifle i'll want it restocked with an after market stock, so rather than through bits away i figure pay more for the rifle i want from the start and not waste money over time......Is this good thinking??

I think i've started to go down the .223 remington 700 route with a 20" barrel on a, wild dog stock(need to try one first but the mcmillan A5 is just too heavy), jewel trigger, detatchable magazine, and schmidt or nightforce variable scope!

Had a few quotes, £1200ish plain rifle

£1600ish with mounts and bases and load developed

£2000ish plain rifle but a stiller predator action

Are these good prices?

Which barrel should i go for?

Any other good stocks?

is a custom action much better?

What safety should i get on the remi as apparently you can get a 3point safety or decocking safety as an add on? are they any good?

Which mag varible on the scope?

Any other things have i missed or what have people used, whats good?

Its all a personal think a semi custom rifle & you would be best try Baldie dont know if still on this site?. I have an H-S precision stock & its great for me on my remmy 700 22.250. I plan to rebarrel & i like krieger barrels & you might want to think on blue-print action when you rebarrel. As for jewell triggers they are in my eyes the best & what i will getting too. As for optics S&B are the best in world to me especially the PM11's model. I see a second hand remmy VS 243 on yorkguns add This comes standard with an H-S stock worth around £275 & the rifle etc £400 i think or not far off as the stock & action worth it alone to build off.

if you can afford it get custom and dont look back!you can order a cooper semi-custom and better than anything out of the box[fox firearms import cooper rifles about 7 month wait].as for what- if you go custom then the world is your oyster best actions come from america a good few rifle builders in this country do some research first and get ideas but beware- you will fill your head with sh** and you will meet yourself coming the other way.unless you have an idea then its a long piece of string syndrome.at the end though it is well worth it.example today with a custom 20 calibre rifle i own i shot a 3 shot group @100yds for .180" thats a one hole group thats custom for you! good luck

kreiger barrels are the best barrel to buy for sure, but for many hunting rifles is just a waste of money, plus the waiting time for them is serious,

but if you want the best then kreiger is the way to go.

jewell trigers are the market leader and top of the heap, s&b zesis leupold, nightforce etc all excellent scopes as for mag 4x16, 4x20, 6.5x20 will be ample for any task.

wild dog stocks are good and mc millian are excellent but a little heavy, i would suggest a mc millian as putting a good barrell and action together, and skimping on the stock would lead to accuracy loss, mc millian are heavy for a reason, no flex thus no loss of accuracy.
