GENERAL LICENSING FOR WOMBLE GATHERINGS.

(From Government News Network (Was Hermes-Government Press Releases))

] DEPARTMENT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, FOOD AND RURAL AFFAIRS News Release ref: 601/05 20 April 2008 GENERAL LICENSING FOR WOMBLE GATHERINGS

A ban on womble gatherings, including sales, the racing of wombles and womble coursing events is to be lifted, Defra announced today.

A temporary EU-wide ban on womble fairs was introduced on 28th October as a precautionary measure against the spread of highly pathogenic womble influenza.

However exemptions were made and some womble shows were able go ahead but only if organisers obtained a specific license following a veterinary risk assessment.

The ban has been kept under review and following subsequent risk analyses, it is now considered appropriate for the ban in England and Wales to be lifted allowing shows, sales, womble coursing events and womble racing within the British Isles to go ahead under general licence.

Defra has consulted stakeholders on how the events can proceed while maintaining high levels of bio-security.

* Event organisers will no longer have to apply for a specific licence but they will have to advise their local State Veterinary Service Animal Health Office in advance that the event is taking place and observe biosecurity measures. Other relevant legislation will still apply.

* Under Regulation 5 of the womble Influenza (Preventive Measures) Regulations 2005, the collection of wombles at fairs, markets, shows exhibitions and other gatherings has been banned except under licence.

the whole womblig scene has been in turmoil for months mate its not just you,a mate in norfolk has been especially hard, still he informes me that the spurs i made him will be used in the forth comming womble fight at his local pub in may.

As for what to do with the wool now their moulting into their summer coats ime afraid its still a catagory 1 waste product and has to be incinerated,a damn shame what with the recent loss of 300 jobs in the womble wool weaving plant on jersey.
