Rats for food??

Recommended Posts

Has anyone thought of using rats or mice for food as these would have more nutrion than a day old chick just a though as when i cept snakes a rat or mouse is like a complete meal every thing the snake needs

Before anyone mentions it i'm talking of the rats/mice bred and killed for pet food not poisened or trapped

Not being cheeky here at all, but if you work the ferret(s), then you should have any ammount of their natural food source RABBITS, why buy rats?

Just wap the puddin's out and hey presto! Ferret food!

Feck buying them for ferrets at the price they are in shops. I've recently got a snake again and i've set up two tanks of mice and one of rats, what I don't use myself will be either used by mates or sold to pet shops but theres no way i'd bother giving mice to a ferret. An adult frozen mouse is going to cost roughly a pound from a pet shop and if you have a hob who could eat say 5 a day thats a pretty expensive diet even compared to James Wellberobbed.

Shoot/catch woodies, squirrels or rabbits or ask at chicken farms for any culls (not day olds, the meatier older ones), theres always something dead and edible knocking around when you look. When i've been short of ferret food a quick :whistling: nocturnal drive around the country lanes can produce the goods.

It's easy enough to raise mice for ferret food. Use a 'harem' system to get your numbers up quickly.

Buy several large storage tubs , stock each with 4-5 females [or more if you so wish] and keep one male to breed the lot of them. Replace the lid with small wire mesh for ventilation and keep food and water available...

Mice make for great ferret food and whilst I don't feed mine soley on mice [rabbit for the most part] they do appreciate the change up.
