Ive been told its possibly the turbo gone and its sucking the oil that cools it and just chucking it straight out the exhaust ??and also the engine any advice would be splendid..its got 150,000 miles on the clock so could it be rings or something else?? cheers scotty Edited April 14, 2008 by scotty3968

jacob 28
sounds like the sort of motor id buy try disabling the turbo and see what happens, the white smoke is usually unburnt fuel.
scotty3968 0
how do you disable the turbo??
abley 0
If you pull the exhaust side of the turbo off you can check the free-play on the turbine.(When cold!) There will be a little bit of give but you'll know if its excessive. Not sure about disabling a turbo though, havn't come across that before, sorry. ATB

My advice is to get it checked ASAP by a mechanic, oil leacking into the exhaust side of the turbo just causes lots of smoke, if it starts to leak into the inlet side it can cause the engine to rev out of control and destroy it's self. Guest manda
its not gonna run well at all with the turbo disabled, just take the pipe off that goes to your air filter (turbo side) and check the play on the shaft. but that wont tell you if the oil seals are gone, when does it smoke? just when your driving? letting off the throttle? or on tickover? could be a few things. the turbo wont really smoke just on tickover. let me know if you get stuck scott
scotty3968 0
it smokes as soon as you start it up,,i was told if the turbo bearing has gone it..it will blow the oil straight out of the exhaust with a lot of smoke..hence thats why there was hardly any oil in it..i think youve got to take the engine out to get to the turbo anyway or the front subframe..propa mare..i cant get to it to check the shaft..i need treble jointed arms that are as thin as straws..ha..i was thinking head gasket but far to much smoke and ticks over to well i think??????? scotty
