How Do You Train A Dog To Course/Lamp?

Recommended Posts

take your time with the pup. get it socialised, stock broken, broken to ferrets and generally used to everyday life. work on recall, retreiving and obediance, get a good bond with the little one and entering and everything else will be much easyer and above all have fun...even when it totally ignores you  have a look for a dvd by dave sleight - purdeys progress. it follows the progress of one of his young pups and how he trains it and at what age etc. theres allso a follow up called lurcher fieldcraft which is purdeys first year of work, again another good dvd. best of luck

i am no professional and am on training my first lurcher, but have picked up some useful advice from here and of a friend basically as maty j says get a good bond with the pup. start with basic retreiving i.e throw a tennis ball etc and highly praise when it brings it back, if you can take it out with another (trained) dog and let it watch then hopefully it will pick it up. i have probably the softest pup goin but when hes out and sees the intented quarry he chomps at the bit to get at it!

good luck and keep on trying
